Golden Finish: Brown Repeats as Class 6A 3,200-Meter Champion

AUSTIN – Carroll senior runner Reed Brown added a final chapter to his outstanding Dragon career.

Brown produced yet again at the UIL State Track and Field meet and repeated as the Class 6A state champion in the 3,200 meters. Brown finished in a time of 8:58.02 Brown’s medals and record-setting weekend didn’t end there.

He followed the next day with a second-place trophy in a record-setting run vs. Sam Worley of New Braunfels Canyon in the 1,600 meters at Mike A. Myers Stadium at the University of Texas. Both runners broke the state record that had been held since 2003.

Brown finished at 4:02.39 and Worley won the title with a time of 4:02.30.

Lady Dragon runner Gillian Moritmer also competed at state and finished 9th in the 3,200 meters.

Dragon Distance Runners Qualify for UIL State Meet

ReedBrownTwo Carroll Dragon distance runners have qualified for the UIL Class 6A Track and Field Meet.

Reed Brown and Gillian Mortimer will compete in Austin on May 11-13. The state meet will be held at the Mike A. Myers Stadium at University of Texas.

Brown, an Oregon signee, claimed the 1,600 and 3,200 meter championships at the 6A Region I meet last weekend at UTA. Brown broke a nine-year-old regional record in the 3,200 meters with a time of 8:51.96.

Mortimer qualified in the 3,200 meters after she finished third with a time of 10:41.52.

 

Record Setter: Brown Breaks 29-year-old Mark in 3,200 Meters

AUSTIN – Carroll junior Reed Brown capped a remarkable year with a record-setting performance at the UIL State Track and Field meet in Austin.

Brown won the state championship in the 3,200 meters and broke a 29-year-old mark in the event with a time of 8:50.43. Click here to see video of Brown’s amazing finish.

Brown also added a silver medal with a second-place finish in the 1,600 meters. His medal-winning performances complete a season which he was named Gatorade State Runner of the Year.

Madysen Hunter and Alison Esparza also had impressive performances at state. Hunter finished fourth in the 300 hurdles and Esparza took sixth in the 3,200 meters.
