Lady Dragons’ Soccer Season Ends in 6A Region I Final

MIDLAND – The Carroll Lady Dragons’ soccer season came to an end Saturday at Grande Communications Stadium.

The Lady Dragons fell one victory shy of a Class 6A state tournament berth after a 2-0 loss to Keller in the Region I championship.

Carroll defeated Wolfforth Frenship 3-1 in the semifinal on Friday and overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit. The Lady Dragons were led by Neaka Khalilian, who scored two goals and Alli Gardner added one.

Khalilian and Sydney Nobles recorded assists.

In the final, Carroll’s shots were limited and Keller’s defense delivered a shutout as it advanced to the state tournament. Keller also avenged an earlier loss this season to Carroll.

The Lady Dragons finished the season 21-2-2.

Carroll Soccer Teams Advance to Region I Quarterfinals

WACO – The Carroll Dragon soccer teams had a successful trip to Waco last Friday.

The Lady Dragons started the night with a 5-1 victory against Belton in the Class 6A area playoffs held at Waco Midway High School. Carroll built a 4-0 lead by halftime.

The Dragons followed with a 3-1 victory against Killeen Harker Heights.

Monday night both teams return to action in the Region I quarterfinals against a familiar opponent. Both teams play District 5-6A mate Hebron with a berth to the region tournament on the line.

The Dragons open the doubleheader at 6 p.m. vs. Hebron at Argyle High School. The Lady Dragons follow vs. Hebron at 8 p.m.

 

Dragon Golf Finishes Third at Mike Brent Invitational

The Carroll Dragon boys’ golf team earned a third-place finish at the Mike Brent Invitational last weekend in Georgetown.

Caden Honea was the Dragons’ top finisher in third place.

The Dragon Black team included Honea, Max Kettler, Brady Perkins, Rob Ruff and Dylan Murray.

The Green and Black teams now prepare for the Region I Preview starting Friday, March 3-4 at the Texas Star in Euless.

Dragon Tennis Advances to 6A Region I Tournament

The Carroll Dragon tennis team earned an impressive victory in the Class 6A Region I Area Semifinals last Thursday.

Carroll defeated Allen 10-8 to advance to the 6A Region I tournament in Abilene at the Rose Park Tennis Center.

The tournament, which includes eight teams, begins Thursday. The semifinals will be held Thursday and the final is Friday morning.

Carroll won this District 5-6A championship and is 14-3 overall.

 

Carroll Track Teams Take Third, Several Qualify for Regionals

The Carroll Dragon boys’ and girls’ track teams finished third last week in the Class 6A Area track and field meet at Coppell High School.

Several members of the Carroll teams qualified for the 6A Region I meet Friday and Saturday at UTA’s Maverick Stadium.

Record Seven Dragon Wrestlers Headed to State

Wrestling Region2The Carroll Dragon wrestling team had its most successful region tournament performance in school history.

The team finished third at the Region I event in El Paso and had nine wrestlers place. A record seven Dragons wrestlers are advancing to the UIL Class 6A state meet in Garland this weekend — four as qualifiers, three as alternates. The state tournament begins at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Culwell Center in Garland.

The Dragon state qualifiers are Jack Duval (region champion at 160 pounds), Clay Vincent (113), Trevor Price (145) and Baron Walsh (152). The state alternates are Cameron Haddock (120), Ryan Lindberg (138) and Zach Francis (182).

Dragon Band Members Selected to Region and Area Bands

DragonBand_LogoThe following Carroll ISD students were recently named to the Region 24 Honor Bands. For these students this is a culmination of countless hours and multiple auditions to gain these selections.

These members of the Dragon Band will participate in the Region 24 All Region Honor Band Clinic and Concert Jan.22-23 at Heritage High School in Frisco.

Wind Ensemble selections include; Andrew Butemeyer, Bass Clarinet, Adam Horne- Trumpet.

Symphonic Band: Hannah Bronson-piccolo, Carleigh Grupe-piccolo, Thi Tran-flute, Shay Guerin-oboe, Gretchen Casel- Clarinet, Wongyeong Seong- clarinet, Ganesh Setty-alto saxophone, Hunter Black-trumpet, Christopher Cunningham-trombone, Pearce Brown- trombone.

Concert Band: Jake Nimergood-clarinet, Julian Raines-clarinet, Tien Tran-alto saxophone, Mylon Johnson-trumpet, CJ Foster- trombone, Tiger Yang- tuba.

Freshman Band: Ainsley Priakos-clarinet, Whitney Chaney-clarinet, Kyle Cantrell-tenor saxophone, Emery Green-percussion, Paul Venesky-percussion.

In addition, Hannah Bronson, piccolo, will participate along with Joshua Villarreal and Wesley Song, violin, in the Region 24 All Region Symphony Orchestra Clinic and Concert at RL Turner High School this month.

And finally, Hannah Bronson and Adam Horne were selected to advance to the Area B, All State Audition at Abilene Christian University next month.

Dawson Band Students Advance in Region Auditions

Throughout the past week, over 1200 middle school band students from Grapevine-Colleyville ISD, Lewisville ISD, and Carroll ISD auditioned for the Region 24 Middle School All Region Bands. Of the 400 students selected, 42 were from Dawson Middle School. Dawson had the second highest number of students make the bands out of the 21 schools in the Region.
