The Healing Powers of Salt Come to Southlake

salt cave logoThe Salt Cave of Southlake recently opened its doors for business. An independent spa owned by Shelly and Shane Jackson, it is one of only a handful of spas in Texas that offers halotherapy, or salt therapy, an ancient practice used to treat various health ailments, ranging from respiratory to dermatological issues. Some of the most common disorders that can be treated with salt therapy include allergies, cold and flu, asthma, bronchitis, cystic fibrosis, dermatitis, eczema, acne, mood disorders, and many more.

As the name implies, the business actually has salt caves, or rooms lined with Himalayan rock salt. A halogenerator, or salt generator, grinds the salt into tiny micro particles that become disbursed into the air. The highly controlled and concentrated aerosol then comes into contact with the clients’ skin and makes its way into the lungs when inhaled.

“We use pharmaceutical grade Himlayan salt from Europe. It is the purest form of salt, with 85 trace minerals, and anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties,” states Shelly Jackson. “Our middle child has severe allergies and difficulty breathing.”

After countless visits to allergists, Jackson’s daughter underwent several forms of traditional treatment before the family finally discovered halotherapy. As a former nurse, Jackson was familiar with Western medicine, but the idea of her eight-year-old having to endure a strict regime of medical treatments felt overwhelming. A more natural approach seemed worth trying and ultimately offered remarkable results.

With a lack of halotherapy options in the area, the Jacksons decided to open The Salt Cave of Southlake. The spa offers three treatment chambers. The quiet Relaxation Cave has large, illuminated salt rocks and offers seven lounges for guests to simply relax, read, and enjoy a complimentary glass of wine during their treatment. The Kids Cave is a special area for children to receive their treatment while coloring or playing in the Himalayan salt “sand box” floor beneath a large ocean mural. The Yoga Salt Cave offers guests the chance to practice yoga while breathing in their treatment. In addition to the salt cave chambers, a computer-controlled salt bed is available for acute treatments. Single, multi-session and monthly packages are available for all forms of treatment.

The Southlake Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon cutting and grand opening for The Salt Cave of Southlake on Tuesday, September 30, at 11:30 a.m. All attendees will be entered into a drawing to win a one year membership to the spa ($1,200 value).

The Salt Cave of Southlake is located at 200 N. Kimball Avenue, Suite 206. For more information, visit www.SaltCaveSouthlake.com or call (817) 965-SALT.
