Southlake and Grapevine Host the TRAPS North Region Parks Rodeo Competition

On Wednesday October 7, the cities of Southlake and Grapevine co-hosted the Texas Recreation and Parks Society (TRAPS) North Region Parks Rodeo at the newly renovated Bicentennial Park.  Twenty-eight cities from across the Metroplex came out to compete in the event.

DS2_0159The Parks Rodeo is an annual event held by TRAPS member cities.  During the competition, parks professionals compete in a variety of events including trailer backing, zero-turn mowers and backpack courses; plant identification; irrigation assembly; backhoe operation; and nail driving.  Participants compete either as individuals or part of a team depending on the event.  The top five individual or team finishers in each event qualify for the state-level competition held during the annual TRAPS State Conference.DS2_0033

In addition to individual/team awards, the three cities with the most points at the end of the competition are also recognized.  This year first place went to Farmers Branch, second place to Denton and third place to Carrollton.

Over 30 vendors were also present during the event to exhibit equipment, supplies and services used in facility and grounds maintenance.

Southlake and Grapevine would like to thank the following sponsors for their support of the 2015 TRAPS North Region Parks Rodeo:  Professional Turf Products (title sponsor); O’Donnell’s Landscape Services, Inc. and Prolawn Commercial, LLC (lunch sponsors); Rita’s Italian Ice; Recreation Consultants of Texas, LLC; la terra studio; Lea Park and Play; and Arbor Masters Tree Service.
