Dragon Sports Notebook: Lady Dragons No. 1 Seed

The Carroll Lady Dragon volleyball team begins its season Aug. 14 at Clear Falls. It will be a quick tuneup before the team begins play in a competitive field of the Pearland Tournament. Carroll, which went 47-4 last season, will enter the tournament as the No. 1 seed. The field also includes defending Class 5A champion Coppell. Former Carroll pitcher Ross Stripling was selected to the Southern League All-Star Game.

Stripling Makes All-Star Appearance
Former Dragon pitcher Ross Stripling continues to make his rise in the minor leagues. Stripling pitched in the Double A Southern League All-Star Game on July 17. Stripling went one-third inning of relief and had one walk in his team’s 6-0 loss. Follow Stripling’s season here. He plays for Chattanooga in the LA Dodgers organization.

Lacrosse Player Commits To UNC
Carroll’s Zack Kissick, a standout lacrosse player, has commited to the University of North Carolina, according to insidelacrosse.com. Kissick is a sophomore-to-be. 

 

 

Ex-Dragon Begins Professional Career

Just one month ago, former Carroll pitcher Ross Stripling was completing his senior year for the Texas A&M Aggies.  The Aggies suffered an early exit in this year’s NCAA tournament, losing in the Regionals to Ole Miss. Just days later, Stripling was drafted in the 5th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers. 

Stripling signed and joined the Ogden (Utah) Raptors, the Dodgers’ rookie league squad. Now 27 games into their season, Stripling has made five appearances, including three starts, and owns a 1-0 with a 0.82 ERA in 11 innings pitched. Stripling’s next start is scheduled for Thursday, July 19, against the Great Falls Voyagers.

Former Dragon Signs With LA Dodgers

Former Carroll pitcher Ross Stripling went from a former A&M walk-on to 5th round draft pick by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

[UPDATE: According to Ross Stripling’s Twitter account @RossStripling, he officially signed his Major League contract last Thursday with the Dodgers.]

Former Carroll Dragon pitcher Ross Stripling is bound for the Los Angeles Dodgers organization. Stripling, a Texas A&M and Carroll graduate, was selected in the 5th round (No. 176 overall) in Major League Baseball’s First-Year Player Draft on Tuesday. Stripling, who led the Aggies with a 10-4 mark this season, recently completed his career with the Aggies in the College Station Regional of the NCAA Tournament.

Stripling (6-foot-3, 190 pounds) enjoyed a decorated career with the Aggies and threw the 11th no-hitter in school history this season. Stripling was 31-11 at A&M after walking on following an all-state selection as a senior at Carroll.

Stripling was drafted in the 9th round last year by the Colorado Rockies but elected to return to A&M.

Ex-Dragon Tosses No-Hitter, Earns National Award

Former Carroll pitcher Ross Stripling tossed a no-hitter for Texas A&M on Saturday and was named National Pitcher of the Week Tuesday.

Former Carroll Dragon Ross Stripling put his name in the Texas A&M baseball history books this weekend. Stripling, a senior right-hander, tossed the 11th no-hitter in Aggie history last Saturday against San Diego State.

On the strength of his impressive outing, Stripling was named National Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Big 12 Pitcher of the Week.

Stripling also tossed the no-hitter on the same day he graduated from A&M with a finance degree. The Aggies won 1-0 as Stripling had seven strikeouts and allowed only one walk and threw 106 pitches. He improved to 9-2 and has a 2.36 earned-run average this season.

It marked the Aggies first no-hitter since 2004. Stripling was a ninth-round pick of the Colorado Rockies last year, but opted to return to the Aggies. At Carroll, he was a member of the Dragons 2008 Class 5A state runner-up team as a senior.
