Southlake Earns Scenic City Award – 2012 Scenic City Certification Recognizes High-Quality Scenic Standards

Update September 28, 2012 – Representatives from Scenic City are scheduled to be at the 10/2 City Council Meeting to present the Gold Certification to the City Council.

The City of Southlake is one of just nine Texas municipalities awarded Scenic City Certification by the Scenic City Certification Program of Scenic Texas. Southlake scored high in the detailed evaluation process, receiving Gold Certification. Two areas specially noted were the city’s landscape ordinance and strict signage regulations prohibiting all commercial signs in the public right of way.

Certified Scenic City

The Scenic City Certification Program is the first in the United States to incorporate a comprehensive set of model standards for design and development of public roadways and public spaces into one program. Applicant cities present their existing standards for assessment and scoring against the model. Cities with the highest evaluation scores are certified.
“The City of Southlake has demonstrated that strong scenic standards build a strong city in terms of economic development and quality of life for residents. This is a win-win situation.” said Anne Culver, executive director of the Scenic City Certification Program, “Earning Scenic City certification is the result of Southlake’s smart and thoughtful decision-making regarding the development, re-development and growth of a community.”
