Carroll School Board Calls May 6 Bond Election

Carroll School Board Trustees unanimously called a bond election for $208 million in projects presented as a single-proposition before voters on May 6. Voters will also decide four seats on the CISD School Board.

The bond election is the culmination of a year-long study by more than 40 citizens and employees who served on the Capital Needs Planning Committee and more than 30 public meetings last fall to gather community input. The CNPC studied 1) capital improvements/building use, 2) technology/instructional programming, 3) maintenance, transportation, safety and security, and 4) extra-curricular/co-curricular facilities.

The list recommended by CNPC includes projects identified at each CISD facility. Details on the work of the CNPC, as well as other topics related to the May Bond Election, are available to voters on CarrollBudget.com. In addition, CISD will be hosting a series of public meetings this spring to explain the projects and answer questions.

The bond package includes classroom additions for each elementary school, a 700-seat performing arts center for band and choir at Carroll Senior High School, renovations to existing facilities, maintenance projects district-wide, new school buses and maintenance vehicles, technology infrastructure, teaching tools and student devices, surveillance cameras and key-swipe entry pads, field turf, band instruments and more.

School officials say life-cycle and maintenance projects make up more than half of the overall bond total. The district’s last election was in May 2009. Voters at that time approved three propositions totaling $138 million.

The last day to register to vote for the May 6 election is Thursday, April 6. Early voting by personal appearance will begin at all Tarrant County early voting locations on April 24 and continue through May 2. Election day voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in each voter’s assigned precinct. The majority of CISD voters are expected to take advantage of early voting at Southlake Town Hall on the third floor. The district’s largest voting site on election day will be at Carroll Senior High School in the art building. There are smaller precincts casting ballots in Colleyville, Grapevine, Keller and Westlake. Tarrant County Election officials will soon announce May voting sites for each precinct.

Voters will also decide three, three-year terms on the CISD School Board, as well as a two-year unexpired term. To date, four incumbents have filed for a place on the May 6 ballot. Filing continues until 5 p.m., Friday, February 17.
