Dragons Suffer Opening Game Loss To Marcus

Carroll pitcher Tyler Alexander had 13 strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings Thursday vs. Marcus before leaving the game with a left wrist injury.

FLOWER MOUND – The Carroll Dragons lost a late lead and fell to the Marcus Marauders 3-2 Thursday in Game 1 of a Class 5A Bi-District playoff series. Carroll (18-10) led 2-0 before allowing three runs in the bottom of the sixth to the Marauders (22-8). Carroll left-hander Tyler Alexander had 13 strikeouts, but was forced to leave the game with a 2-1 lead following a wrist injury with two outs in the bottom of the sixth.

The Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Ben Sego doubled and scored on Darien McLemore’s RBI single. It was the first earned run allowed this season by Marcus left-hander Colin Poche’, who has signed with Arkansas. Game 2 of the series is at 4 p.m. Friday at Dragon Field. Game 3, if necessary, is set for 1 p.m. at Grapevine High School.

Dragon left-hander Greg Maisto will be Carroll’s Game 2 starter.
