On June 23, 2015, Southlake Mayor Laura Hill presented the Community Services department with a proclamation declaring July National Parks and Recreation Month.

On June 23, 2015, Southlake Mayor Laura Hill presented a proclamation to the Community Services Department recognizing July as National Park and Recreation Month. Since 1985,  The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) has celebrated Park and Recreation Month during the month of July; this year marks the 30th anniversary.

NRPA originally designed the month long campaign to encourage citizens across the nation to take advantage of local parks and programs that cities provide. July is the perfect time to develop healthy habits for you and your family by utilizing local parks, trails, playgrounds, swimming pools, and nature preserves. The City of Southlake boasts over 1,200 acres of park land including the Bob Jones Nature Center and the Southlake Tennis Center.

To celebrate, NRPA has dubbed this year’s Park and Rec month with an 80s theme.  As part of the celebration The City of Southlake’s Community Services Department will host numerous events throughout July that will be 80s themed. They invite Southlake residents to go outside this July and enjoy being active within all the beautiful parks that Southlake has to offer.
