Sinkhole Repairs at DFW Airport Continue; Jets depart from 31L

The City of Southlake has received the following information from the DFW Airport Noise Compatibility Office.

The sink hole hazard adjacent to Runway 18L/36R is not yet resolved.  As a result, the FAA will have to continue to launch jets from Runway 31L until such time as the runway is restored to full use.  Every effort will be made to curtail departures from Runway 31L during the 11:00PM to 06:00AM hours.  Last night departures from 31L were terminated at 9:21PM.

Please be advised that because of periodic peaks in the volume of daily air traffic at DFW, and the closure of Rwy 31L, the FAA has found it necessary to temporarily direct aircraft departing on Runway 31L at peak periods on one of three headings.  These headings provide the required 15 degrees of divergence between successive departures prescribed by the FAA for safe separation.  The headings and corridor descriptions include, 340 degrees, over-flies the Southlake/Grapevine border north of Hwy 114, 310 degrees, flies along the north side of the Hwy 114 corridor, and 280 degrees, which flies along the south side of the Hwy 114 corridor.  Again, these are temporary, measures necessitated by the restricted use of Runway 18L/36R.  Yesterday there were approximately 100  to 140 departures on each heading.

During this difficult period we continue to encourage you to refer any inquiries or complaints to our web address for the Noise Compatibility Office (NCO) at dfwnoise@dfwairport.com.  Follow-up response emails will be provided by the NCO when requested.  We also encourage citizens with inquiries or complaints to contact us at the telephone Hotline, 972-973-3192, which is manned 24/7, but is often inundated with calls at times like this.
