The Next Generation of Southlake’s Future Leaders!

Throughout the past couple of months, the youth leadership group has gotten several opportunities to practice strengthening their skills in problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and decision-making throughout various meetings.

Below is some inspiring work the students collaborated on throughout their program – An engaged and empowered group aspiring to be the next generation of future leaders!

Financing and Budget: Students adopted a mock budget for the fiscal year based on typical municipal challenges, including resident needs, economic conditions, political considerations, and building consensus in the best interest of those they represent.

Economic Development & Planning: Students debated the pros and cons of certain land use designations in specific areas of their towns. The exercise included students being City Council for a day and using the feedback they received from citizens and the developer to decide what was best for their community.

Austin State Capitol Trip: Last week, the group attended the Texas State Capitol in Austin. They toured the Dome, the Legislative Reference Library, and the Members Lounge, where they heard and spoke with Representative Giovanni Capriglione and Former Representative Larry Gonzales. They ended the trip with a visit to the Texas State Cemetery, the final resting place of legendary Texans who have made the state what it is today.

TD Ameritrade: Students have been learning and understanding the operations of a Fortune 500 company, including investment portfolio tools, client acquisition, and investment education. They are currently collaborating on their final group presentation with the company.
