Former Lady Dragon Signs to Play Professionally in Iceland

Sophie Groff is gearing for the start of her professional soccer career.

Groff, a former Lady Dragon soccer player, has signed with Keflavic FC of the Deild Women’s League in Iceland. Groff recently finished her career at South Carolina, where she finished with 24 career goals and finished fifth on the school’s all-time scorers list.

Groff was second-team All-SEC her senior year and scored four game-winning goals.

She is a 2013 Carroll graduate and one of the most decorated Lady Dragon soccer players in school history. During her senior year, she was regarded as one of the nation’s top recruits.

 

Lady Dragons’ Soccer Season Ends in 6A Region I Final

MIDLAND – The Carroll Lady Dragons’ soccer season came to an end Saturday at Grande Communications Stadium.

The Lady Dragons fell one victory shy of a Class 6A state tournament berth after a 2-0 loss to Keller in the Region I championship.

Carroll defeated Wolfforth Frenship 3-1 in the semifinal on Friday and overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit. The Lady Dragons were led by Neaka Khalilian, who scored two goals and Alli Gardner added one.

Khalilian and Sydney Nobles recorded assists.

In the final, Carroll’s shots were limited and Keller’s defense delivered a shutout as it advanced to the state tournament. Keller also avenged an earlier loss this season to Carroll.

The Lady Dragons finished the season 21-2-2.

Carroll Soccer Teams Advance to Region I Quarterfinals

WACO – The Carroll Dragon soccer teams had a successful trip to Waco last Friday.

The Lady Dragons started the night with a 5-1 victory against Belton in the Class 6A area playoffs held at Waco Midway High School. Carroll built a 4-0 lead by halftime.

The Dragons followed with a 3-1 victory against Killeen Harker Heights.

Monday night both teams return to action in the Region I quarterfinals against a familiar opponent. Both teams play District 5-6A mate Hebron with a berth to the region tournament on the line.

The Dragons open the doubleheader at 6 p.m. vs. Hebron at Argyle High School. The Lady Dragons follow vs. Hebron at 8 p.m.

 

Dragon Soccer Earns Shootout Victory against McKinney Boyd

AUBREY – The Carroll Dragon soccer team performed big with the season on the line.

The Dragons earned a 3-2 victory with an impressive performance in the shootout against McKinney Boyd in a Class 6A bi-district round playoff. The game was played at newly-opened Denton Braswell High School.

Carroll outshot Boyd 4-2 in the shootout and scored on its first four shot attempts. Dragon goalie Harrison Pustilnik preserved the victory with clutch stops against Boyd. Carroll shootout goals were scored by Calvin Herd, Michael Parrish, Nat Kajiwara and Kian Khailian. The Dragons improved to 15-3-3 with the victory. During regulation, Kajiwara and Chase Reynolds scored goals.

The Dragons advance to meet Killeen Harker Heights in an area-round playoff on Thursday. The game will be played at Waco ISD Stadium at 8 p.m. It will be part of a Carroll soccer playoff doubleheader as the Lady Dragons face Belton at 6 p.m.

Lady Dragon Soccer Produces Dramatic Finish in Playoff Opener

CARROLLTON – The Carroll Lady Dragon soccer team battled tough winds and McKinney Boyd in the Class 6A bi-district round Thursday.

The Lady Dragons earned a 2-1 overtime victory thanks to a game-winning goal by Alli Gardner with 45 seconds left in the second overtime. It was Gardner’s second goal of the night.

The teams fought 25 mph winds at Hebron High School’s Hawk Stadium and were tied 1-1 at the end of regulation. Gardner gave the Lady Dragons a 1-0 lead in the first half.

Carroll, ranked No. 4 in the nation, advances to the area round and will face Friday’s Belton-Cedar Hill winner next week with a site to be determined. Carroll’s playoff game will be played either Thursday or Friday due to STAAR testing next week.

The Lady Dragons finished as District 5-6A’s No. 1 seed and McKinney Boyd was the No. 4 seed from 6-6A.

Carroll improves to 18-1-2 overall.

Soccer Update: Lady Dragons Win District, Open Playoffs Thursday

During spring break, the Carroll Lady Dragons completed a goal for the 2017 season.

The Lady Dragons won the District 5-6A championship and defeated Hebron 3-0 in the final district game. The Lady Dragons improved to 17-1-2 on the season and ended district at 11-1-2. It marked the Lady Dragons’ fifth district championship in the last six seasons under coach Matt Colvin.

Against Hebron, the Lady Dragons produced three goal scorers in Carolina Berutti, Ally Griffin and Taylor Tufts. For the season, Griffin leads the team with 22 goals.

The Lady Dragons face McKinney Boyd on Thursday at 8 p.m. at Hebron.

Dragons Clinch Playoff Berth

Just before spring break, the Dragons had reason to celebrate. Carroll clinched a playoff berth in District 5-6A with a 3-0 victory against L.D. Bell on March 10 at Dragon Stadium.

Calvin Herd, Michael Kays and Corey Dotson each scored goals for the Dragons. Carroll won its’ final regular season game on Monday against Hebron and opens the playoffs on Friday.

Carroll will play McKinney Boyd in a Class 6A bi-district playoff at Denton Braswell High School at 7 p.m. Braswell is located at 26750 E University Dr. in Aubrey.

 

 

 

Carroll Soccer Teams Sweep Byron Nelson on Tuesday

The Carroll Lady Dragon soccer team bounced back from their first loss of the season with a victory Tuesday vs. Byron Nelson.

The Lady Dragons won 2-0 and remain in first place in District 5-6A. Alli Gardner and Sydney Nobles scored goals and Tara Sumer and Taylor Tufts added assists. Carroll improved to 16-1-1 overall and 10-1-1 in district.

The game also included Teacher Appreciation Night. The Lady Dragons honored administrators, teachers and coaches and walked with them to midfield during pre-game player introductions.

Dragons Get Big Win at Byron Nelson

The Dragons produced a 4-1 victory Tuesday at Byron Nelson. Calvin Herd scored two goals and Michael Kays and Corey Dotson each added one goal.

Chase Reynolds, Herd and Dotson each added assists.

The Dragons return home Friday vs. L.D. Bell on Senior Night. The game starts at 7:30 p.m.

Two games remain in the season for the Carroll boys and girls.

Carroll Soccer Teams Fall Against Marcus

The Carroll Lady Dragons suffered their first loss of the season last Friday at Marcus.

The Lady Dragons lost 2-1, but remain in first place in District 5-6A. Carroll hosts Byron Nelson on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Dragon Stadium. The teams tied 0-0 earlier this season and Nelson is in second place in district.

Taylor Tufts scored Carroll’s only goal against Marcus and Emily Chase had the assist. Carroll is 15-1-1 overall and 8-0 at home this season.

Marcus Drops Carroll at Dragon Stadium

The Dragon boys’ soccer team also fell on Friday at Marcus 2-0 at Dragon Stadium. The Dragons will look to rebound in District 5-6A action on Tuesday when they play at Byron Nelson at 7:30 p.m.

 

Lady Dragons Win, Remain Leaders in District 5-6A

The Carroll Lady Dragon soccer team earned a 3-1 victory on Tuesday at Lewisville.

With the victory, the Lady Dragons moved to 15-0-1 and 9-0-1 in District 5-6A. Senior Texas Tech signee Ally Griffin had two goals and Taylor Tufts added one in the victory. Emily Chase, Kendall Gilpin and Neaka Khalilian each had assists.

The Lady Dragons return to action Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Marcus

Dragons Tie Lewisville
The Dragons boys’ soccer team tied Lewisville 1-1. The Dragons are 12-2-2 overall.

Carroll hosts Marcus on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Dragon Stadium.
