T.A.A.F. Tournament to Draw Crowd of About 10,000 This Weekend

You may notice an influx of people to our area this weekend. The City of Southlake and the City of Grapevine will be jointly hosting the 2013 TAAF Youth Basketball State Tournament March 15-17. The best basketball teams in Texas will be traveling from across the state to compete in this tournament.   This is a very large event as 176 teams from across the state of Texas have been confirmed to participate.  There will be 6-7 tournament venues in Southlake at C.I.S.D. schools and an additional 6-7 venues at G.C.I.S.D. schools. Between Saturday and Sunday Southlake alone will be hosting 152 games. The following is a list of tournament locations for C.I.S.D. Schools:

Dawson Middle School, 400 S. Kimball Ave, Southlake, TX 76092
Eubanks Intermediate School, 500 S. Kimball Ave, Southlake, TX 76092

 

An estimated 1,500 – 2,000 players will be competing for the title of State Champions. Cities are awarded to host T.A.A.F. State Tournaments through a competitive bidding process. The estimated economic impact from last year’s tournament in Carrolton and The Colony was around $600,000.  It was estimated that approximately 7,700 participants/spectators attended the tournament in 2011 with about 50% being from outside the DFW area. Approximately 10,000 participants/spectators are expected to attend this weekend.

The City of Southlake and City of Grapevine’s staff will host a tournament party at the Grapevine Community Activity Center on March 16th.
