Southlake Welcomes Second Hotel: Cambria Opened December 3 at Kimball Park

The transformation of Southlake’s eastern gateway took a giant step forward December 3 with the opening of Cambria Southlake DFW North. The 175-room hotel anchors Kimball Park, a mixed-use commercial development underway at the northwest corner of State Highway 114 and Kimball Avenue.

What was once the site of a large MESCO metal fabrication facility since the 1950s is now a 15.5-acre project that will combine the Cambria hotel with office, retail and restaurants into a walkable, park-like setting.

“This piece of property is a Cinderella story with a happy ending,” said Southlake Mayor Laura Hill. “Not only are we thrilled to welcome a new hotel to our city, but this provides another reason for people to visit – and contribute sales tax dollars – to Southlake.”

The Cambria hotel joins the Hilton Southlake Town Square in contributing to the seven percent hotel occupancy tax, which funds the city’s Tourism Division that was created in 2009 to proactively bring visitors to Southlake.

“Although I spend a majority of my time promoting tourism to non-residents and touting the benefits of Southlake, it’s equally important for our citizens and local business owners to realize the importance of tourism in our community and support our hotels,” explained Jill Lind, Southlake’s tourism and marketing manager.

Described as “upscale, but never uptight,” Cambria Southlake combines a contemporary environment and comfortable furnishings with smart technology and sought-after amenities to provide business travelers and local visitors a new hotel experience:

  • 175 one-and two bedroom oversized guest rooms
  • Social Circle® Bistro – open to guests and the public for breakfast and dinner –offers traditional American comfort cuisine along with a few Texas specialties, including chicken fried steak, fried catfish + chips, and the Tex-Mex Angus burger.
  • The Lobby Bar is an ideal space to plug-in or unplug, featuring a well-stocked bar including Texas craft beers and a unique selection of wines.
  • The Custom Fit Fitness facility features health club quality Pre-Core cardio machines and strength training equipment.
  • An outdoor pool area offers more than 5,000 square feet of patio space, cabanas, and a fire pit to enjoy the Texas nights.
  • 5,000 square feet of flexible event space is customizable for corporate meetings, group conferences, social receptions and weddings from 12 to 300.
  • Complimentary shuttle service to Southlake Town Square and other select destinations is available to guests daily.

According to Sam Cannon, general manager of Cambria Southlake DFW North, the upscale boutique hotel incorporates many elements that the Cambria chain is known for, but the property has been customized, and upgraded, for this market.

“The Southlake hotel continues the Cambria brand of being comfortable, contemporary and technically advanced – allowing guests to sit down and relax or be productive on the road. But, we’ve taken it to the next level with larger rooms, free and faster wi-fi, a guest texting platform, and 55” smart televisions in every room that allow for unlimited streaming,” states Cannon. “We’ve also gone to great lengths to make this property reflect the region and the city, featuring Southlake-specific references and curated art by Texas artisans – from the hand-blown glass longhorn in the lobby to the sliding barn doors in the bathrooms.”

Patrick Barrett of Fillmore Hospitality, the developer and management company of the hotel, believes the “relaxed, Texas chic” atmosphere will appeal to business travelers, along with close proximity to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, that the hotel is targeting during the week.

“Our research indicates that approximately 20 percent of business travelers to Southlake end up staying in Grapevine because there are no rooms available here,” Barrett stated, noting that is not the only reason Southlake was chosen as the second location in Texas for a Cambria Hotel & Suites (with the other property being in Plano). “Southlake is a dynamic, growing community and we saw the need for more hotel rooms. We feel this upscale property will do well here and be embraced by the local residents.”

In honor of the holiday season – and to let local residents take a first-hand look – hotel management is hosting “Santa Comes to Cambria” December 17 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. The festivities include photos with Santa, a pancake breakfast (with coffee and cocoa), cookie decorating station, and tours of the property. The event is free and online reservations can be made via the hotel’s Facebook page.

Cambria Southlake DFW North is located at 2104 E. State Highway 114. For more information or reservations, visit or call 817-329-1010.
