CANCELLED: Bob Jones Community Picnic Celebrating Black History Month

Due to inclement weather, the Community Picnic that was scheduled for this Saturday, February 28 has been canceled.

The public is invited to attend the First Annual Bob Jones Community Picnic celebrating Black History Month, presented by the Bob Jones Nature Center and Grubbs Infiniti. The Community Picnic is an event where Southlake families can enjoy the outdoors while learning about BJNC’s rich history. The Nature Center is named for Bob “Dolford” Jones, who was born a slave and became Southlake’s largest landowner. The Nature Center sits on a portion of the original Jones property.

Bob Jones hosted the first annual picnic in the late 1800s, a family tradition that continued into the 1960s. Some Southlake residents still recall those gatherings of friends, family, and neighbors to eat barbecue, listen to music, and dance. Bob Jones Nature Center is bringing back a tradition that helped create a strong community. Join the fun on Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Explore the nature center, enjoy lunch, listen to some live music, and test drive vehicles provided by Grubbs Infiniti.

Bring a favorite side dish or dessert to share potluck style, and attend the Community Picnic free of charge! Prizes will be awarded for the best-rated side dish and dessert. Those attending without a potluck contribution will be charged $5 per adult and $3 per child. Ozarka Launches Campaign Celebrating the Spirit of High School Football

Park Place Dealerships Give Dragon Fans Ultimate Opportunity

Carroll Dragon logo Trademarked 4Park Place Lexus and Park Place Motorcars Grapevine are giving one lucky Southlake Dragon fan the opportunity to kick a field goal for the chance to win a 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLA or a 2015 Lexus NX.  The field goal attempt will be held at the Southlake Dragons vs. Coppell Cowboys game on October 3, 2014, at Dragon Stadium.

“This is a unique opportunity for the community to have some fun and possibly drive away in a new car,” said Matt Woolsey, general manager of Park Place Lexus Grapevine.  “We love the pure enjoyment of this event for the community. It will be exciting to see the contestant attempt to win the car.”

Contestants for this event need to register at before 12:00 p.m., October 1, 2014.  There is a maximum of one (1) entry per person.  One lucky winner will be chosen at random from all entries received and two alternates will be notified 24 hours prior to the field goal kick attempt. The field goal attempt will be held at Southlake Carroll Dragons Stadium during half time of the October 3 football game. In order to qualify for the grand prize, the contestant must successfully kick a football of regulation size over the crossbar and between the uprights of a regulation state high school goal post. Current or former Olympic, semi-professional or professional football, soccer or rugby players who have competed in the United States, Canada or Europe cannot participate.  Current or former high school or collegiate football, soccer or rugby players who have competed at that level within the past six (6) years and current or former football coach who has coached at the high school level or above within the past six (6) years may not participate.  For a list of all rules and regulations please visit

Become A Dragon Homecoming Sponsor

The Homecoming celebration at Southlake Town Square on Wednesday, September 25, will provide students, businesses and the community an opportunity to showcase Dragon pride through a combined Carnival, Parade and Pep Rally. Depending on the level of involvement, there are several options for sponsoring this event.

For the Carnival booths that will be open from 4:30-6:30 p.m., official CISD student and parent organizations will be able to host a Carnival booth free of charge, but will need to provide their own tent, table and chairs. Businesses or individuals can sponsor a student organization booth or secure a booth of their own for $500. This package will include a 10 by 10 carnival booth tent, table, chairs and sponsor signage. Set-up for these booths will begin at 2 p.m. on Sept. 25.

The Parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will run through Town Square. Student organizations will be able to participate in the Parade at no cost. All other Parade Sponsorships will include a carnival booth sponsorship plus a corporate banner in front of a student float. Corporate Parade Sponsors will receive the basic package for $1,000. Automobile Sponsors will not only receive the basic package for $2,500, but their cars will also be used to drive the Homecoming Court, Teachers of the Year and other prominent Parade members. The Grand Marshal Sponsor will pay $5,000 for the right to feature their own float at the front of the parade. They will be the Title Parade Sponsor and their name will be advertised with the Parade information. Parade lineup will begin at 6 p.m. in the Barnes and Noble parking lot.

Immediately following the Parade, the Pep Rally will begin on the steps of Town Hall where sponsorships will be available for $1,500. This package will include the Carnival and Parade sponsorships as well as the opportunity to hand out novelty items at the Pep Rally. Any individual, business or organization who hands out any type of novelty item at the Parade or Pep Rally will be charged the $1,500 fee.
