On June 4, 2016, join the Southlake Library, Recreation, The Marq and more to celebrate summer with the Minions, the Space Rockers, Blackland Prairie Raptors, and J. Tiger Martial Arts. This free event is held in Family Park in front of Southlake Town Hall from 10 AM – 1 PM.

Activities include exploring DPS vehicles, games, crafts, inflatables, airbrush face painting, balloon artists and so much more. Free frozen treats from Rita’s while they last.

Building Safety Day is an international celebration of safe, sustainable structures and a public awareness campaign to help children and families learn backyard and swimming pool safety. Our themes this year are “Building Solutions for All Ages,” “The Science Behind the Codes,” “Learn from the Past, Build for Tomorrow,” and “Building Codes.” Building Inspectors and Code Enforcement Officers will be available to answer questions and provide free activity books, inspector badges and swimming pool safety materials.

Stop by and sign up for Southlake Summer Reading on the first day for a chance to win a special prize. Visit with Southlake Recreation to explore summer classes and activities. Discover free family activities at The Marq Southlake, and learn more about building safety. Don’t miss this once a year event!

Southlake Summer Reading – Every Hero Has a Story

Southlake Summer Reading

Southlake Summer Reading

It’s here! Southlake Summer Reading is the highlight of the summer when kids, teens, and adults win prizes for reading and using their library. Kids and teens win prizes for every 5 hours they read up to 25 hours. They also earn a large prize drawing slip for each 5 hours, with no limit on the number earned. They will use the drawing slips to enter large prize drawings for fun rewards like electronics, bicycles, games, pool toys, and more. Adults can get into the fun by earning a drawing slip each time they check out from the library or bring a child to a library program. Limit 1 per day. Prizes are donated by area businesses and will be on display in the library throughout the program.

Kids can enjoy over 60 special programs and performances, including Story Times with special guests and shows with magicians, comedians, puppeteers, and live animals. There are also hands-on workshops for cartooning, juggling, and becoming an animal ambassador.  Teens can work directly with author Jenny Martin to find their own unique writing voice in a 3-part teen writing workshop. Kroger will lead kids in cookie decorating and Yogee’s Yoga will offer yoga and yogurt. The Library will also offer crafts and a weekly movie matinee for kids. The Southlake Historical Society will host a special kids event at the Southlake Log Cabin.

Southlake Summer Reading is a free program that encourages families to make reading and the library part of their summer fun. Children who participate in programs such as summer reading, maintain and improve their literacy skills over the summer and are better prepared for the next school year. Families who read together, create an enjoyable reading experience that encourages lifelong learning. The Library’s goal is to support Southlake as a creative and educated community. We look forward to building relationships with our families this summer.

Southlake Summer Reading with Southlake Public Library is supported by our presenting sponsors, Friends of Southlake Library and Brigg’s Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty. Its theme and artwork are copyright of the Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) organization.
