DSO on the GO Performance Scheduled October 3

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra (DSO) announces its return to Southlake for a pops concert on October 3, 2013. The performance at White’s Chapel United Methodist Church marks the third season the DSO has performed in Southlake with APEX Arts League as part of the DSO on the GO concert series. DSO on the GO is presented by The Ebby Halliday Companies, with generous support from TACA.

“We are very happy to be returning to Southlake for the third year in a row,” said Dallas Symphony Orchestra President and CEO Jonathan Martin. “Audiences have welcomed us enthusiastically in the past, and we hope this concert provides entertainment and inspiration to reinforce the full cultural life of the city.”

For this concert, conductor Rei Hotoda and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra will perform a pops program including the spirited Candide Overture by Bernstein; “Pops” Hoe-Down by Richard Hayman; Morton Gould’s American Salute; Western-themed music from Copland’s Rodeo; popular pieces by Rossini (The Barber of Seville Overture) and Verdi (the “Triumphal March” from Aida) and other familiar music. The soloist for the evening is DSO Principal Second Violinist Angela Fuller Heyde who will play Ravel’s Tzigane, a fiery, gypsy-style showpiece for violin and orchestra.

“APEX is pleased and honored to again be hosting the world class Dallas Symphony Orchestra,” said APEX Chairman of the Board Terri Messing. “These affordable performances give families the chance to hear great music together, and give music-lovers in Southlake and Northeast Tarrant County the opportunity to experience memorable performances while remaining close to home.”

DSO on the GO was launched in 2012, and a concert with APEX Arts League at White’s Chapel United Methodist Church was the second performance of the new series. In the 2013/14 season, DSO on the GO will again feature the full Dallas Symphony Orchestra playing classical and pops concerts in eight cities and neighborhoods across North Texas. DSO on the GO concerts feature familiar classical pieces and popular light classics, with concerto soloists who are principal musicians from the DSO.

In addition to the concert October 3, DSO on the GO will return to Southlake and White’s Chapel United Methodist Church on May 22, 2014.

Single tickets are $16 and $26. Tickets can be purchased by calling 214.692.0203 or by visiting www.DallasSymphony.com.
