Proposed Tarrant County Budget Has No Tax Rate Increase

The Tarrant County Commissioners Court was presented with a balanced budget proposal this morning, which would maintain the current tax rate. The total proposed budget is $532,128,951 with a tax rate of 26.4 cents per $100 valuation. Tarrant County taxes on a home with a value of $100,000 would be $264.

The proposed General Fund budget adds 9 new employment positions and includes a 3 percent merit-based salary increase for non-law enforcement employees. The proposal also includes funds for law enforcement step increases and implementation of a new salary structure.

Tarrant County’s tax rate is the second lowest when compared with the other five large urban counties in
Texas—Travis, El Paso, Harris, Bexar and Dallas Counties.

The Commissioners Court is scheduled to adopt the budget and set the tax rate on September 10.
