New Four Lane Stretch of Kirkwood Boulevard Improves Mobility in Southlake

Mobility in the north end of Southlake just got a little better, thanks to the widening of Kirkwood Boulevard between Stockton Drive and Tyler Street. The new four-lane roadway also includes new sidewalks on the west side of the road from Dove Road to Tyler.

The final piece of the project to be completed will be the median landscape, which is expected to be completed after the summer heat dissipates.

“This is another great mobility project we’re glad to have completed,” said Public Works Director Rob Cohen. “It was designed and constructed to help Southlake motorists get where they want to go as safely and quickly as possible. I’m glad it is moving along on time and the major work was completed before back to school rush traffic increases across the city.”

A part of a Capital Improvement Plan project designed to help improve current and future mobility in the area, work on Kirkwood started last year. This section of Kirkwood was always intended to be a four-lane, divided roadway, and the expansion of the last two-lane section has increased roadway capacity in the area. This is a welcomed improvement which has accommodated traffic generated by the opening of TD Ameritrade this past spring.

Other recent major projects in the area include the Kirkwood intersection improvements. As part of the City’s 2030 Mobility Master Plan the improvements included the addition of traffic signals at TW King and Kirkwood and Dove and Kirkwood, as well as new turn lanes at each intersection. The City also partnered with TxDOT and Westlake to improve the efficiency of the intersection of Kirkwood and State Highway 114 with the addition of turn lanes and traffic signals. These additions were completed in the spring.

TD Ameritrade named the 2018 Southlake Corporate Business of the Year

The Southlake Chamber of Commerce named TD Ameritrade as the 2018 Southlake Corporate Business of the Year at their June 21 awards banquet.

Held at The Marq Southlake, the award program recognizes and celebrates the Southlake community. “The Southlake Chamber of Commerce is proud to be a part of this great city, where volunteerism and corporate citizenship are a way of life,” noted Chamber CEO Mark Guilbert.

TD Ameritrade was recognized for its significant investment in the city and commitment to being an active community partner by supporting numerous events and giving employees eight hours of paid time off each year to volunteer for the organization of their choice.

The Nebraska-based brokerage firm recently opened the 300,000 plus square foot Southlake campus in January 2018 and welcomed almost 2,000 new employees to Southlake.

In a March 2017, My Southlake News article Melissa Matson, a senior specialist for corporate communications at TD Ameritrade, talked about their commitment to the community. “We are committed to growing our footprint in the DFW area and becoming an employer of choice within the community,” she stated.

On April 26, 2018, the company celebrated their grand opening in Southlake. According to TD Ameritrade President and CEO Tim Hockey, who was on-hand for the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony, the Southlake facility will help support the continued growth of the company.

“As TD Ameritrade starts its new chapter in Southlake, we are a much larger company that we were 20 years ago. Our new Business Center is intended to support the continued growth of the company, as well as help our associates become more efficient, collaborative and successful in their careers,” Hockey stated.

Mayor Laura Hill officially welcomed TD Ameritrade to the city at their grand opening event and expressed her excitement for having the company in Southlake.

“You are a part of Southlake now and we knew from the beginning this was special for our community. This has truly been a partnership, and I expect great things from both sides as we move forward. Thank you for being here and making Southlake better,” Hill stated.

“This is exactly the type of high-quality development we want along SH114 and we couldn’t be happier to welcome TD Ameritrade to Southlake,” Hill added.

City Leaders Celebrate Opening of TD Ameritrade Corporate Campus in Southlake

It’s not every day that Southlake welcomes a 318,000 square foot corporate campus and its nearly 2,000 employees to town. Which is why City leaders and administrators, representatives for state legislators, Southlake Chamber of Commerce president and board members, and other community VIPs turned out in force April 26 to celebrate the grand opening of TD Ameritrade’s  Operating Center.

As the “new kid on the block” of a portion of State Highway 114 that is already home to several Fortune 500 companies including Sabre, Verizon and Deloitte – and many other well-known tenants in neighboring Solana business park – TD Ameritrade is an impressive addition to the area’s growing list of corporate citizens.

The Nebraska-based brokerage firm purchased 78 acres near the northwest intersection of SH 114 and Kimball Avenue in October 2015 with the intention of opening a state-of-the-art regional corporate campus to consolidate financial services, technology, and operations staff from two existing leased buildings in Fort Worth.

According to TD Ameritrade President and CEO Tim Hockey, who was on-hand for the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony, the new facility has accomplished that and much more.

“As TD Ameritrade starts its new chapter in Southlake, we are a much larger company than we were 20 years ago. Our new Business Center is intended to support the continued growth of the company, as well as help our associates become more efficient, collaborative and successful in their careers. That’s a good thing for our clients, our shareholders and the city of Southlake,” Hockey stated, noting Dallas-Fort Worth is the company’s second-largest location after its headquarters in Omaha.

Hockey also pointed out the company’s commitment to being an active and community partner by supporting numerous events and giving employees eight hours of paid time off each year to volunteer for the organization of their choice.

Tom Nally, president of TD Ameritrade’s Institutional Division and a Southlake resident, oversaw the opening of the massive facility. He praised the collaboration and teamwork between many entities in order for the building to be completed on time and on budget.

“When selecting our new home we had an eye on the future, and we knew Southlake was where we needed to be. Our vision was to provide a better associate experience – one that brings them together, provides leadership development and continued education, as well as offers amenities that today’s professionals want in their careers,” said Nally. “We are particularly grateful to the City of Southlake for allowing us to bring that vision to fruition.”

The new Business Center increases the square footage by more than 50 percent, providing amenities the Fort Worth office did not have, including a full-service cafeteria, fitness center with professional trainers and group exercise classes, training facilities, and other multi-purpose areas for associates. The multi-story building and adjoining parking garage were designed with sustainability in mind and has achieved LEED Gold certification.

“Today, approximately 2,000 associates are working in this building, and we have room to grow. We want to be an employer of choice and an advocate for the community, and the completion of this project, in our opinion, is a step in that direction,” added Nally.

Southlake Mayor Laura Hill addressed the crowd and officially welcomed TD Ameritrade executives and associates to the city.

“You are part of Southlake now and we knew from the beginning this was special for our community. This has truly been a partnership and I expect great things from both sides as we move forward. Thank you for being here and making Southlake better,” Hill stated.

In September 2015, Southlake City Council approved a tax abatement agreement with TD Ameritrade, incentivizing the mutually beneficial decision of opening the Southlake campus. Construction began on the building mid-2016 after the site plan was approved by Southlake City Council.

“This is exactly the type of high-quality development we want along SH 114 and we couldn’t be happier to welcome TD Ameritrade to Southlake,” Hill added.

TD Ameritrade Southlake Campus Opens its Doors

The TD Ameritrade Regional Financial Center has officially opened, welcoming more than 1,000 new employees to Southlake during the first week of 2018.

Joining the ranks of businesses along Texas State Highway 114, the Nebraska-based brokerage firm is in the process of consolidating financial services, technology, and operations staff from the company’s Fort Worth location to the new Southlake campus.

“The first group of associates officially moved into the Southlake location during the first week of January, and the remaining employees will make the transition within the next six weeks,” stated Melissa Matson, a senior specialist for corporate communications at TD Ameritrade, adding that 1,600 employees will move in total.

The Southlake campus has a capacity for 2,000 employees, allowing for future growth. The more than 300,000 square foot location consists of a two-story and a three-story connected building with a parking garage and resides on 78 acres next to the Solana business park.

TD Ameritrade Regional Financial Center in Southlake is located at 3000 TD Ameritrade Lane.

TD Ameritrade Moves Forward with Southlake Campus

Since the announcement last October that TD Ameritrade had purchased 78 acres near Solana for its new regional corporate campus, the online financial services giant has been mostly quiet about the plans and progress.

Until last week, when a story in the Dallas Business Journal revealed a general contractor has been hired and construction for the approximate 300,000 square foot facility will begin this summer.

Although no plans have been released and a building permit has not been filed, the company is anticipating completion by fall 2017.

The new campus in Southlake will consolidate TD Ameritrade’s regional operations from two existing leased buildings in Fort Worth, which currently house approximately 1,200 employees. Dallas-Fort Worth is the Nebraska-based company’s second largest location for employees.

The TD Ameritrade Southlake Campus site plan was approved by the Southlake City Council at the April 19, 2016 City Council meeting.
