Lace Up Your Shoes for the 2023 Fit City Challenge!

Are you ready to get moving again?

Join Team Southlake for the second annual Fit City Challenge and go head-to-head with the City of Keller and the City of Colleyville to prove we have what it takes to claim the title of Most Fit City 2023! Over 45 days, we will challenge you to be physically active, focus on your well-being, and work with your fellow residents to move Southlake to the top of the leaderboard!

Here’s How it Works:
The goal for this challenge is for Team Southlake to achieve the highest average point total. The easiest way to do that is simple…go out and be active! Whether it’s walking the trails of Bob Jones Nature Center or dominating the pickleball courts at Champions Club, you’re invited to commit to a more active lifestyle for 45 days!

The challenge is based on a “most points” model where participants exercise independently but are not alone. Your solo workouts count for the team via the GoJoe app. Each activity generates points, weighted by activity type to level the playing field.

GoJoe automatically allocates points via the app. Point values are based on either the distance or duration. Learn more about how points are calculated here.

How Teams are Ranked
Teams are ranked by the average number of points for all members of that team. The leaderboard will default to team rankings, but you can see how you rank as an overall individual or as an individual on your team in real-time by selecting a new view under the options menu. Help us keep Southlake on top of the leaderboard by encouraging your team members to stay active every day of the challenge!

Keep in touch with fellow team members and receive crucial challenge updates with the new chat feature available this year. It’s never been easier to encourage Team Southlake to keep its eyes on the prize!

Prizes, prizes, and more prizes!
Each week, a random participant will be drawn from each team to win a prize! At the end of the challenge, the individual with the most points from each group will win a prize! In the case of a tie, the participants will be put into a drawing and the winner will be chosen at random.

The team that finishes the challenge with the most points will be crowned the Fit City Challenge Champions and receive the Fit City Challenge Grand Prize!

The competition runs from April 1- May 14. Learn more about the 2023 Fit City Challenge.

Team Southlake Went All Out for the Fit City Challenge

The Fit City Challenge is officially over, and the results are ready!

Team Southlake might not have taken home the Fit City trophy, but we accomplished some incredible feats over the last 45 days. We showed the entire community that there is nothing we can’t achieve with a little determination, team spirit, and healthy competition!

Here are the final results:

Team Southlake: 752.5 points

Team Keller: 756.2 points

As you can see, it was an extremely close competition. We didn’t win the overall championship, but we overcame obstacles, stepped out of our comfort zones, and claimed personal victories. You can’t quantify that with mere numbers! We are incredibly proud of everyone that participated in the challenge and took their fitness journey to the next level!

For those who love looking at metrics, these incredible stats that demonstrate how hard Team Southlake competed in this challenge are for you.

Total Miles Logged: 15,598.89 (the Proclaimers have nothing on us!)

Total Steps: 82,943,183

Total Points: 473,259

Total Participants: 630 Southlake residents!

The Fit City Challenge was an astonishing competition. We rallied together as a community and dedicated ourselves to getting out and being active! Not only that, but we had fun doing it too!

Here’s what a couple of Team Southlakers had to say about participating in the challenge:

“It’s been awesome being a part of the Fit City Challenge, representing the City of Southlake. My workouts began on February 1, Monday through Saturday. I woke up at 5:00 AM to get to the gym by 5:30 AM, with my target event being the Caveman Triathlon on April 10 in Flower Mound. My goal is to complete 20 triathlons before the close of 2022!” Jenny Vidotto.

“The competition was super close! Win or lose, we got some great engagement and feedback, so that’s a win in my book!” Jake Coldren, Fitness and Performance Supervisor.

The challenge may be over, but it’s no time to lose momentum! Challenge yourself to continue working towards 45 active minutes a day for optimal health and balance. Way to go, Team Southlake!

Meet Rebecca Priddy: Banquet Specialist at Legends Hall

Those who have attended an event at Legends Hall know that every single detail is world-class.

If you’ve ever wondered how the Legends Hall staff manages to pull off such perfect events, time after time, then look no further than Rebecca Priddy! Rebecca Priddy is the new Banquet Specialist at Legends Hall and is in charge of coordinating and executing flawless events such as weddings, conferences, executive parties, and more.

We recently sat down with Rebecca to get to know her a little better. Here’s what she had to say:

What is your professional background?
My professional background has varied over my career path as I took an extended time to stay home with my children. I have experience as an administrative assistant, executive secretary, office manager, educator, recreation leader, recreation and educational programs coordinator, and events coordinator. I have realized during my career journey how much I enjoy community services and events! It has become a passion of mine.

What are you most excited about for your new position?
I am most excited about assisting in coordinating world-class and memorable experiences for our clients and community. It is a joy and honor to be a part of these special celebrations in people’s lives. I am also excited to work for the City of Southlake, be a part of this beautiful facility, and work alongside a fabulous team!

What do you like to do in your spare time?
My family is very important to me. I spend my spare time with my husband, four kids (young adults), and grandson. My daughter is a competitive dancer on her high school drill team, so the fall season is full of Friday night lights! Spring is competition season which keeps us busy as we cheer on our girl and her team. I also enjoy being outdoors at our community trails and parks and cheering for my grandson at his soccer games. I love to host family and friends in our home and spend time with our church community.

What are you most looking forward to in 2022?
I am excited about growing in my new position at Legends Hall and look forward to all the beautiful events we will help create. I am also looking forward to celebrating my 50th birthday, KHS drill team Nationals at Disney, and my son’s wedding in August!

Welcome to the team, Rebecca! We look forward to seeing the beautiful events you help bring to life. Book a tour today if you are interested in celebrating your next life milestone at Legends Hall. Reserve your date by February 28, 2022, and receive 10% off our event packages!

Southlake’s Pavement Marking Program: Keeping Our Roads Safe

Contractors will be on site to remove and replace faded striping on Brumlow Avenue between E. Continental Boulevard and SH 26 and along S. Kimball Avenue between FM 1709 and SH 26 starting Tuesday, June 9, weather permitting. This roadwork is a part of the Traffic Management Division’s annual citywide pavement marking program.

Throughout the calendar year, the Southlake Mobility Team collects marking requests from residents, businesses, staff and school zone evaluations. The City then hires a contractor to address all of the requests during the late spring and early summers when traffic volumes are lower.  Grouping the requests allows them to be addressed more efficiently.

“The City is committed to keeping markings visible and in good condition on roads in Southlake so that drivers and pedestrians are safe,” said Transportation Manager Stephanie Taylor. “We want our residents and visitors to be able to navigate Southlake efficiently and safely.”

For more information about mobility in Southlake, please follow the Southlake Mobility Facebook page.
