Orange Barrel Alert – Texas Turnaround Closed Until October

Expected closure of the Texas Turnaround

Expected closure of the Texas Turnaround

The Texas Turnaround will be closed for approximately 60 days for construction of a new acceleration lane.

Beginning the week of August 10, 2015, the Texas Turnaround, located east of the North Carroll Avenue Bridge at the intersection with SH 114, will be closed for the construction of a new acceleration lane on the eastbound frontage road.

The Texas Turnaround will remain closed for approximately 60 days while the new lane is installed and is expected to re-open in early October.

The new lane will help better guide traffic off the Texas Turnaround and will provide additional safety for motorists entering the frontage road from the Texas Turnaround and from North Carroll Avenue.

Orange Barrel Alert for TxDOT Texas Turnaround

TxDOT’s contractor will be closing the right lanes of both north and south bound Carroll Ave over the bridge at SH 114 due to the Texas Turnaround construction project. Traffic control signs alerting motorists to the change will be in place on North and South bound Carroll Ave and East bound frontage roads at Carroll Ave.

Closures will take place daily as needed from 9 am to 3 pm until February 7th, to prepare the bridge for cleaning and painting.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact Public Works at (817) 748-8082.

TxDOT – New Turnaround Bridge Coming on SH 114 in Southlake

The TxDOT turnaround bridge project, aka the “Texas Turnaround”, is now under construction. The project, located on the eastside of the N. Carroll Avenue bridge at SH114 is a joint project of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Tarrant County, Gateway Church, Cooper and Stebbins (Southlake Town Square Development), and the City of Southlake. Once completed, the new turnaround will help alleviate traffic congestion, which in turn will improve motorist safety in the area.

TxDOT crews have begun placing barricades on N. Carroll Avenue, as well as crash absorption barriers on the main lanes of SH114. Once the barricades and other safety measures are in place, the project will be completed in two parts. The first part of the project will include power washing and painting the existing bridge on N. Carroll Avenue. The City of Southlake will implement these improvements, in addition to other aesthetic enhancements (decorative railings and lighting designs), as part of its responsibilities for the project.

Once the painting is complete, the contractor, McMahon, L.P., will begin the second part of the project—constructing a new turnaround bridge on the eastside of the existing N. Carroll bridge. Work crews will first prepare the area and drill shafts for the concrete columns of the new turnaround bridge. Drilling for the shafts will take place on the shoulder of the main lanes and TxDOT anticipates daily lane closures on the far left lane of the frontage roads once construction is fully underway. Occasional closures of SH 114 will occur, but TxDOT will limit these closures to nighttime in order to minimize impact to motorists. Lane closures will be communicated via the City’s Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as through “Orange Barrel Alerts” posted on MySouthlakeNews.com/Construction.
