The Marq Southlake Prepares for Champions Club

From weddings and corporate events to a senior activity center and an outdoor amphitheater, The Marq is Southlake’s multi-faceted community center that will soon offer much more.

The Marq celebrated its groundbreaking September 2014, opened to the public with the completion of Phase 1 in December 2015, and is scheduled to break ground on Phase 2 in November, with an ultimate design to offer something for everyone in the community.

Located within Bicentennial Park, The Marq Southlake has already introduced a $15 million-dollar, 23,000 square foot Phase 1 facility known as Legends Hall, an event venue featuring an expansive ballroom, meeting spaces for out-of-office meetings and conferences, a full catering kitchen, a relaxing lounge, and a senior activity center. The Marq is also home to Aria, an outdoor amphitheater offering space for concerts, performances, outdoor wedding ceremonies and more. Having already hosted numerous private and public events since its debut, proposed Phase 2 developments will further add community amenities to The Marq.

Champions Club, the proposed 84,000 square foot Phase 2 plan for the community center will include spaces for fitness, performance training, gymnasium, indoor jog/walk track, indoor aquatics, indoor playground, party rooms, child watch and multipurpose classrooms for various programs. With no additional tax increase for Southlake residents, Phase 2 is funded by Community Enhancement Development Corporation (CEDC) bonds. CEDC is governed by a board that works jointly with City Council to ensure that funds raised through the 3/8 cent Type A sales tax are spent on the construction and operation of The Marq.

The $37.4 million-dollar project gained site plan approval during the August 16 City Council meeting and is awaiting construction contract approval during the September 6 City Council meeting. Once approved, Haydon Building Corp will construct the final phase planned for The Marq. Construction is expected to begin in November 2016, with a grand opening scheduled for summer 2018. When complete, The Marq will be Southlake’s largest public facility at approximately 107,000 square feet.

“Almost two decades in the making, Southlake will soon offer the comprehensive recreation center that the community has long desired. The Marq will offer the perfect gathering place with amenities for all ages, as well as provide a central location for hosting community events and private parties,” stated Southlake Mayor Laura Hill.
