They say the kitchen is the heart of the home, but it may also be the heart of the community as Southlake continues to be a dining mecca with new restaurants opening monthly. The first of three planned eating establishments in Kimball Crossing, a new strip center at 2175 E. Southlake Boulevard near Kimball Avenue, is Zoës Kitchen which debuted November 8. This is the company’s 70th location and ninth in Dallas Fort Worth. According to company spokesperson Lauren Aamodt, Southlake was chosen because it has a great community feel, which is something they look for when selecting locations.
Zoë, which means “life” in Greek, is known for healthy, homemade Mediterranean-inspired food that includes Greek favorites such as pita sandwiches, hummus, chicken and orzo soup, Greek salad, and steak, shrimp or chicken kabobs. The restaurant also offers beer and wine, along with complete take-out meals and “take home tubs” of its salads and spreads.
Zoës Kitchen is dedicated to delivering delicious, fresh and convenient in-store and takeout meal solutions that allow families to get out of the kitchen and enjoy more time together. All Zoës Kitchen recipes are made using good, honest ingredients that are chemical-free and sourced locally when possible, as well as fresh, never frozen poultry – and it’s no secret that Zoës never uses fryers or microwaves when preparing its meals. Vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free dishes are also available.
Named the best taco joint in Dallas Fort Worth by D Magazine, Torchy’s Tacos will open in Kimball Crossing April 2013 for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Torchy’s tacos are the main menu item with variations that include green chile pork, fried avocado, Baja shrimp, blackened salmon and seared ahi tuna. Other offerings in the 128-seat restaurant include the grande burrito, street corn, green chile queso, and beer and wine.
The chain, which originated in Austin as a food trailer, now has six locations in Dallas Fort Worth with Southlake being the second in Tarrant County.
According to chef and owner Mike Rypka, the Southlake location will have similar elements as the other stores, but each location has features that provide its own look-and-feel.
“People in DFW have been so supportive of our shops, and we felt like Southlake would be a great place for us to open because the people are friendly and the city encourages business development. We’re looking forward to serving our tacos here in 2013,” says Rypka.
Dallas-based chain Snappy Salads will open its fifth DFW location in Kimball Crossing in 2013. Named best place to have a salad by D Magazine and Dallas Observer, its award-winning menu features 16 specialty salads such as grilled avocado, sauteed salmon, the Brutus (think Caesar), steakhouse and classic Cobb. Wraps, soups, baked potatoes, and a selection of lettuce, cheese, dressings and toppings will also be available.
Whether you’re craving a veggie kabob, grilled shrimp and chorizo taco, or crispy artichoke salad, you will soon find it at Kimball Crossing!
