Join the Senior Center for a getaway to Texas Hill Country

The Southlake Senior Center, in partnership with Senior Getaways, is offering their members the opportunity for a short three-day/two night getaway to Fredericksburg and the Texas Hill Country. The trip leaves on the morning of Monday, May 9 and returns the evening of Wednesday, May 11.

The trip to hill country will feature round trip deluxe motorcoach to and from Southlake, two nights at the Comfort Inn in Fredericksburg, two breakfasts, two dinners and one lunch. During your stay, participants will have the chance to tour the acclaimed National Museum of the Pacific War, LBJ’s birthplace & ranch, as well as plenty of free time to shop and stroll the historic streets. Cost for the trip is $319 per person.

Senior Activity Center Explores "American Brides: Inspiration & Ingenuity" Exhibit on Thursday, October 23rd

American BridesThe  “American Brides: Inspiration and Ingenuity” Exhibition is a collaboration between the Greater Denton Arts Council and the Texas Fashion Collection at the University of North Texas. It will feature more than forty wedding gowns, dresses, and ensembles that span from 1840 to the present. “American Brides: Inspiration and Ingenuity” emphasizes the importance of bridal traditions that were handed down from the 19th century to the present day, such as the white wedding gown that was made popular by Queen Victoria. Visitors will gain an appreciation for the beautiful details and handiwork in each gown represented in the exhibition.

The Southlake Senior Activity Center bus will depart from the Center on Thursday October 23, 2014 at 10:30 AM and will return back to the Center at 4:30 PM.  Please note that the arrival and return times are subject to change.

Go Greek at the Mid Cities Greek Fest with the Southlake Senior Activity Center on Friday, October 10th

MId Cities Greek FestivalJoin the Senior Activity Center at the 23rd Annual Mid Cities Greek Fest at the St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Euless. They will be serving up all the classics; gyros, feta, souvlaki, spanakopita, moussaka and much more! Tastings and sample platters will be available.  Baklava will be served as the perfect way to finish off the meal. Live Greek music and traditional dances will also win your attention.

The Southlake Senior Activity Center bus will depart from the Center on Friday October 10, 2014 at 10:30AM and will return back to the Center at 3:30 PM.  Please note that the arrival and return times are subject to change. Travel to China or Japan with Southlake Sister Cities

Arrival in TomeThe Southlake Sister Cities Youth Ambassador Program offers the youth of Southlake an opportunity to represent the City as a Youth Ambassador to one of Southlake’s Sister Cities – Tome, Japan and Suzhou Wuzhong, China. The Youth Ambassadors and adult chaperone are immersed in a cultural experience while living with host families and experiencing a variety of activities planned by the city and their hosts. 

Serving as a Southlake Sister Cities Youth Ambassador provides the opportunity for global friendship and a life-changing experience while fulfilling and underscoring the mission of the Sister Cities International program of “bringing the world together through education and cultural exchange.”

Suzhou Wuzhong, China
March 5-14th, 2015 (spring break) 

  • Visit beautiful Suzhou Wuzhong District – the cradleland of the ancient Wu culture
  • Experience Chinese daily life with Wuzhong host families thru homestay program
  • Interact with students and faculty at Jiangsu Foreign Language School

The City of Southlake Senior Activity Center Visits the W.P. Kloster Museum & Dublin Bottling Works Tour on September 4, 2014

This museum focuses on the Dublin Bottling Works unique history and includes a huge collection of memorabilia collected by W.P. Kloster himself. The Southlake Senior Activity Center bus will depart on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 8:30 a.m. and will return to the Center at 4:00 p.m. Please note that the arrival and return times are subject to change.

Kloster loved all things classic soda and his extensive collection includes many rare pieces. The tour ends in Old Doc’s Soda Shop, where you can browse the shop, step up on the soda fountain, or purchase one of the many Dublin Bottling Works tasty products!

The cost for transportation for this event will be $7.00 and admission for the event will cost $4.00. Attendees will need to bring extra money for lunch and other purchases.

The City of Southlake Senior Activity Center Visits the Dallas Holocaust Museum, Wednesday, August 13th

2Dallas-Holocaust-Museum_114620Go back to World War II with the Southlake Senior Activity Center at the Dallas Holocaust Museum, as they learn about the occurrences of April 19, 1943. The Southlake Senior Activity Center bus will depart on Wednesday, August 13th, 2014 at 9:00 AM and will return to the Center at 4:00 PM. Please note that the arrival and return times are subject to change.

Three isolated actions occurred that day which represent an ethical lesson that will be taught at the museum. The museum’s main exhibit explains the crucial events and the distinction between them. The visit will be a self-guided audio tour, that focuses on photography and witnesses’ testimonies, along with exposure to the message learned because of that single day on April 19,1943.

The cost for transportation for this event will be $5.00 and the museum admission cost is $8.00. Please bring extra money for lunch and other purchases.
