The Carroll Water Polo teams competed in the North Regional Water Polo tournament last weekend.
As a result of their performance at the North Region tournament, both the Lady Dragons and Dragons will advance to the TISCA State Tournament in Lewisville.
The Lady Dragons placed first in the North Region Tournament and will play their first game against Lamar on May 5.
The Dragons took third in the tournament and will play Cy Creek at 1:30 p.m. that same day. The tournament is a double elimination tournament.
In addition to their success as a team, many of the athletes were selected to the All-Region teams. Of the 240 athletes that competed, 12 of our Dragons were selected to these teams.

Three Carroll Dragon Water Polo players were named National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association All-Americans for the 2015-2016 season.
Dragon Zach Lowery earned first-team All-American. Lady Dragons Gabi Gervasi and Erin Weisert were chosen also selected All-American.
Just seven boys and seven girls from Texas earned All-American status.
All three players also compete for Thunder Water Polo, a year-round Water Polo Program in North Texas.
Each team, boys and girls, played four games and reached the championship game Saturday night. The girls were the defending state champions and the boys posted their best finish in the program’s history. The following are game results and all-state selections…

The Dragon boys’ and girls’ water polo teams were in action last Saturday in Lewisville at the final regular season tournament of the 2016 season.
The Dragon girls dominated their final regular-season games, outscoring their opponents in both games by double-digits. Top players on the team include Erin Weisert, Gabi Gervasi, Anna Warner (goalie), Sophia Torres and Katie Nedrow.
The Dragon boys defeated Denton Guyer, 9-5 and also upended St. Marks, the two-time defending State Champions 4-3. This was the first time in over 15 years and 200 games, that any team from North Texas has beaten St. Marks. Eight Dragons played vs St. Marks, including Zach Lowery, Sean Murphy, Nate Winkler (goalie), Daniel Balint, Griffin Rea, Braden Hall, Naysan Sahba and Matt Hahn.
The girls’ team will carry a 13-4 regular-season record into the North Regional Championships, along with a Top 2 Ranking in the State. The team will be seeded 1st of 12 Teams in the North Region Championships, which begin Friday afternoon at the Carroll Aquatic Center, concluding with games all day Saturday. The Dragon girls won’t compete until Saturday morning, earning a bye into the 2nd round field of eight teams.

The top four HS Water-Polo Teams at the North Region Championships will qualify for the Tisca State Water-Polo Tournament in College Station at Texas A&M University on Friday and Saturday, April 29-30. The girls are the defending 2015 State Champions and the boys finished 5th at the 2015 State Championships.
The Dragons teams are coached by former Dragon Joseph Yglesias and assisted by Dan Balint.
The Carroll Lady Dragon Water Polo team won the North Texas Region Championship last weekend at the C.I.S.D. Aquatics Center. Twelve girls’ teams competed in the event. The Dragons’ team finished as runnerup in the field of 12 and both Carroll teams have qualified for the Texas Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (TISCA) High School State Water Polo Championships in Austin in two weeks. Also, Daniel Cox (former all-state Dragon swimmer) was named the Girls’ Regional Water Polo Coach of the Year.
