Loyal Champions Club members know it takes a full team to keep our award-winning facility running at world-class capacity.

Everyone in the Community Services Department plays their part in keeping The Marq in tip-top shape, from the front-facing Managers on Duty to our dependable custodians. When it comes to major maintenance management and projects, however, no one knows more than our new Building Operations Supervisor, Robert Sexton!

Robert is a long-time Parks and Recreation professional with ample aquatics, parks, and maintenance experience. His unique background makes him a perfect addition to our team. Robert hit the ground running when he started with us. Now that the dust has settled, let’s get to know him a bit better.

What did you do before coming to Southlake?
I was the parks and aquatics maintenance supervisor for the City of Hurst Parks Department. I worked for the City of Hurst Parks Department for 22 years. I did landscape, athletics, and irrigation. For the last 13 years, I did aquatics maintenance and started to do playground maintenance also.

What made you want to go into local government?
I actually fell into local government by accident. When I was 18, I was working at a hamburger restaurant and a group of code enforcement guys came in and told me about a position open in the parks department. I looked into it and applied. It was the best decision I have ever made!

What are you most excited about in your new position?
The most exciting thing about my position for me is getting to learn a whole new system of operation!

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy fishing, getting to go scuba diving at some of the local dive parks, grilling out, and hanging out with the family.

What’s a good piece of maintenance advice staff and members should keep in mind?
Preventative maintenance is key!

Welcome to the team Robert! We are so happy to have you looking out for our incredible facility. If you see Robert out at about throughout The Marq, make sure to thank him for his hard work!

Champions Club members may have noticed there’s a new face around the fitness floor!

Meet the newest addition to our Champions Club family: Fitness Supervisor Jake Coldren. Jake is passionate about fitness and ready to help create world-class experiences for our members.

We sat down with Jake to get to know him better. Here’s what you should know about him:

Where are you from, and what’s your fitness background?
I am originally from the Florida Keys. I lived there for most of my life before moving to Orlando to go to college. While in school, I studied Sports and Exercise Science with a focus on Human Performance. I began working in the fitness industry while getting my degree and have over five years of experience working in fitness. Most recently, I was the Head Coach and Studio Manager for F45 Training in Carrollton, TX. I am super excited to be part of the team here at The Marq!

What do you love most about fitness?
What I love most about fitness is what it has taught me personally and professionally. Believe it or not, I was a late bloomer to fitness. I did not start going to the gym until I was about 18. Since I started working out consistently, I realized the profound positive effect on my physical and mental health.

What do you hope to achieve in this new position?
I hope to gain new relationships and build the skills that will allow me to continue to provide exceptional service to the people I meet.

Why should people become Champions Club members?
With the holidays around the corner, we have plenty of awesome things coming up at Champions Club! Be on the lookout for the set of fitness workshops we’ll be holding. I also may have heard that Fitness Santa may be making an appearance in December to spread some holly jolly fitness cheer to our members!

Welcome to the Champions Club family, Jake! We are so excited to see the difference you will make for our members. Next time you’re in Champions Club, make sure to say hello to Jake!
