Orange Barrel Alert: N. Kimball Ave. Traffic Switch- Expect Delays 1/25

On Saturday, January 25, traffic on N. Kimball Ave. from Kirkwood Blvd to Dove will be switched from the existing pavement to recently placed temporary paving. This switch is needed to move the existing N. Kimball Ave. widening project forward.

During this time, crews will be striping the new lanes and relocating reflective delineators. Due to rolling lane closures as the work takes place, delays can be expected in the area.

The traffic switch operation will begin at 9:00 am and be complete by 5:00 pm Saturday, January 25th.

North White Chapel Widening Project Coming Soon

The City of Southlake has begun preparation of design plans to improve the N. White Chapel corridor between Southlake Blvd and SH 114.  The North White Chapel Widening project involves widening a little over a mile of two-lane roadway to a four-lane divided roadway with a dual-lane roundabout at the intersection with Highland Street.  The project will incorporate landscaping elements – trees, shrubbery, street lighting, trails, and amenities – in accordance with Southlake’s street design standards.

North White Chapel Widening Project Rendering

This north-south, two-lane facility was designated as an arterial corridor in the City’s Mobility and Master Thoroughfare Plan in the late 60’s.  Additionally, North White Chapel Boulevard intersects with SH 114’s frontage roads.  As the region grows and more drivers use the area’s roadways, traffic volumes along SH 114 and access into and out of Southlake will increase.  As such, reconstructing North White Chapel Boulevard will provide the following:

  • Added roadway capacity to serve existing and projected traffic volumes
  • Improved traffic operations and safety for residents and visitors

In addition to the roadway widening, the North White Chapel Widening project will include utility and drainage improvements.  The right of way acquisition process is just now getting into full swing on the southern portion of the project with the northern portion beginning in the spring of 2013.  Utility relocation is expected to begin in late 2013. The project is currently under design with construction estimated to begin in 2014. This project represents an estimated $10.825 million capital investment in the City’s transportation system which includes a $2.185 million match from Tarrant County.

Please see the City website for more information on this project.
