The Southlake Youth Action Commission (SYAC) demonstrated its commitment to learning about local government and leadership development during the recent Texas Municipal League (TML) Youth Action Commission Summit in Lewisville. The annual 2-day conference, hosted by the City of Lewisville Youth Action Council, provided a platform for Youth Advisory Councils statewide to converge, share insights, and enhance their leadership skills.
Eight dedicated Southlake Youth Action Commission members participated in the summit, immersing themselves in workshops on financial responsibility, effective networking, and community impact. The event featured inspirational speakers, networking socials, and teambuilding activities, fostering an environment of learning and collaboration.
The Southlake delegation excelled in representing their community, showcasing their enthusiasm and dedication to becoming informed and empowered leaders. Through engaging with peers from diverse backgrounds, the SYAC members broadened their perspectives and gained valuable tools to contribute meaningfully as the official youth voice for the City of Southlake.
We are proud of our SYAC members for taking time out of their valuable weekend to engage in this leadership summit and their willingness to expand their horizons. We commend these young leaders for their exemplary representation and commitment to positively impacting their community.
The Southlake Youth Action Commission was in Dallas on February 4-5, 2023, to attend the Texas Youth Advisory Commission (YAC) Summit, hosted by the City of Dallas and sponsored by the Texas Municipal League.
This annual event provided YACs from across the state the opportunity to attend skill-building workshops, hear from motivational speakers, and share ideas.
While the summit has a serious mission of educating, inspiring, and empowering, it is also built as a fun environment to help connect youth with other youth leaders and city leaders. More than 200 youth leaders and city officials from around the state attended the summit. The Southlake Youth Action Commission was represented by Carroll Senior High School student and SYAC member, Kahna Jain.
The Southlake Youth Action Commission looks forward to participating in the Texas YAC Summit in years to come. The City of Southlake extends a hearty thank you to the City of Dallas and the Texas Municipal League for hosting such an educational and fun event.
