Call for Volunteers – Be Part of Southlake’s Boards and Commissions

Medallion-cover-300x289Do you want to be part of the City of Southlake team?  The City Council is seeking residents who want to be engaged in their community and help support the City Council in their mission.

On October 21, 2014, the Mayor and Council will make appointments to the Library Board , Metroport Teen Court, Senior Advisory Commission, Arts Council, Business Council, and Crime Control and Prevention District.

Citizens interested in helping their local government in the areas of regard to library planning and programming, senior related programs, public art, and business and economic development in the City are encouraged to complete an application for a board or commission.  Applications may be obtained from the City’s website.

Each appointment is for a term of two years, unless appointed to fulfill an existing vacancy for an unexpired term. It takes a team to run a City, and City Council wants you to be a part of our team. If you have the desire and the commitment to devote to our community, please complete an application and e-mail (lpayne@ci.southlake.tx.us) or fax (817).748.8270 to the City Secretary’s Office.

You can also mail or hand-deliver your application to the City Secretary’s Office, 1400 Main Street, Suite 270, Southlake, Texas 76092.  Applications must be received no later than September 15.

Passport Day – June 14, 2014

tarrantcountysealThe Tarrant County District Clerk’s Office is hosting five separate Passport Fairs in Tarrant County on Saturday, June 14, 2014 from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm to provide passport information to U.S. citizens and to accept passport applications.  The Tarrant County District Clerk’s Office is offering Saturday hours, making the process more convenient for many area individuals and families.

U.S. citizens must present a valid passport book when entering or re-entering the United States by air. U.S. citizens entering the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda at land borders and sea ports of entry must present a passport book, passport card, or other travel documents approved by the U.S. government.

Information on the cost and how to apply for a U.S. passport is available at the County website at www.TarrantCounty.com, or on the State Department’s website at Travel.State.Gov.

2014-15 Carroll CREW and Varsity Mascot Tryouts

CREW and Varsity Mascot tryouts are scheduled for Friday, March 28.

Interested students need to pick up an Application Packet from Mrs. Lacava at Carroll Senior High School or in the front office. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 21. 

CREW applicants must be Seniors for the 2014-2015 school year. Varsity Mascot (Charlie) can be a junior or senior student for the 2014-2015 school year.

SASO Girl's Group Application Now Available

Creators of the local service organization Scholars and Athletes Serving Others (SASO) are holding a membership drive for the Girls Group. The 200-plus member mother-son group is now branching its membership to include mothers and daughters.  SASO is looking for young women from different interests to come together with the mentoring of their mothers to accomplish great things for the Southlake and surrounding communities.

SASO, pronounced “say so”, released applications for membership on Tuesday (10/15) afternoon and applications will close on October 31, 2013.

SWC Accepting Scholarship Applications

The Southlake Women’s Club is pleased to once again to award a combined total of $15,000 in scholarships to 2013 CSHS graduating seniors.

The club has been offering these scholarships since 1995, when originally it was funded through the Annual School Supply Sale, but since 2001, the scholarships are funded through the proceeds from the Art in the Square event that will be in Southlake Town Square April 26-28, 2013.

All seniors are invited to apply for these scholarships, including male students graduating. The scholarship committee will meet in April to decide the winners and the amounts awarded. The names will be announced in May at an annual event at Carroll Senior High School.
