October is the Perfect Month to Play at the Park!

The cooler weather may have taken a while to arrive, but it’s finally time to enjoy autumn outside!

Want your kiddo to develop a love for being outside while exploring our world-class parks system? Drop off your child at Liberty Park at Sheltonwood on Saturday, October 15, at 10:00 AM!

We know it can be hard to get kids excited about being outside. Our staff planned a sensational day of games and activities to keep your kiddos engaged, entertained, and safe! Lunch is included with your registration!

A life-long appreciation of the great outdoors and the importance of beautiful public park systems starts early, so don’t wait to register for this exciting program!

Pumpkin Painting Palooza at Southlake Public Library

There is a lot one can do with pumpkins – bake a pie, carve them, use them as decorations – but at the Southlake Public Library we will be painting them! Wouldn’t you like to paint some too?

MasterWorks presents the Southlake Community Band

The City of Southlake and the Arts Council Northeast are pleased to present The Southlake Community Band as part of the 2016 MasterWorks Concert Series on September 17. Join us for a Saturday night at Southlake Town Square for a night of music with your friends and family.

The Southlake Community Band is comprised of more than 70 talented adult amateur musicians who enjoy playing music just for fun. The band performs regularly in Southlake an dsurrounding cities, and provides a range of music spanning broadway, classic band, sousa marches, and familiar children’s music!

Make sure to bring a chair or blanket and come ready for some great music and good times.
There will also be food trucks at all outdoor performances.

Youth Program Registration is Now Open!

Sign-up your child now for Southlake Parks and Recreation Youth programs! With a wide assortment of programs to choose from, there’s something that everyone will love.

Jump into cooking with your little one in Lil’ Chefs, a cooking program where kids ages 3 – 8 can learn to measure, mix, whip and decorate their way to an array of yummy treats!
Or Chess! The program teaches kids to learn the basics of competitive Chess, including notation, tournament procedures and etiquette as well. Give their brains a workout!

If your’re looking for a more active program try Jiu-Jitsu! For ages 5 – 17, the Jiu-Jitsu program has been running in Soutlake since 2002 and has since become a crowd favorite, teaching kids age appropriate marshal arts.

Show off your moves with Bollywood Dance! A program designed to teach kids ages 5 – 13 poise, grace, and the moves of their favorite Bollywood stars!

Or put their survival skills to the test with The Ultimate Survival Test, where kids are put through a series of games designed to make sure that they are ready for the apocalypse!

Youth Athletic Leagues Available for Registration!

Just because school starts doesn’t mean your child has to stop being active! Registration for Southlake’s Youth Athletic Leagues for this fall and winter is now open.

Sign your children up for one of Southlake Recreation’s Youth Athletic Leagues and keep them active and happy while playing their favorite sports!  Such as the Under the Lights Flag Football available to kids in grades 1st through 6th. Their season runs from early September to late October and will provide kids with a fun team building experience that will stick with them for the rest of their football careers.
Registration ends August 20th.

Fall Girls Volleyball, which is open to girls ages 6 – 12 is also offered. The volleyball program features practices, an 8 game season, and playoffs, giving your volleyball star the full experience! Jerseys are provided for each player and a set rotation guide is in place to make sure every player receives equal playing time!
Registration ends August 26th.

Don’t forget about Winter Basketball! This program, for kids 6 – 12, will keep your children energized and excited as they play their way through an eight game season with playoffs! An excellent team builder, Winter Basketball ensures that every player gets their chance to play on the court while encouraging friendly competition!
Registration end October 21st.

Stay busy with the Senior Activity Center this October

As always, the Senior Activity Center has plenty to do during the month of October as the weather cools down and we jump into fall. It’s going to be a great month for those in the community who are 55 or better, be sure to join in all the fun!

Mini-Huddle fall registration is now open!

The Mini-Huddle will introduce young children ages four and five to the game of football by teaching the basic fundamentals of the sport.

Participants will learn how to pass, receive, defend, rush, and other fun and exciting football skills in a well supervised environment. Teamwork, sportsmanship, and overall fun will be emphasized over direct competition.

Don’t miss the last day of the when the players will demonstrate the skills they have learned in the Skills Showcase. This program costs $45 which includes a jersey, trophy, and youth-size ball. Click here for more information or to register.

Girls Fall Volleyball registration is now open!

The City of Southlake’s Community Services Department offers young girls the opportunity to play in a recreational league that provides them with the opportunity to improve their volleyball skills in a fun environment.

Students will learn to ace, spike, pass, block, and attack all while making new friends. All teams will play an eight game season and players will play on a rotation to ensure all players receive equal play time. This program is for girls ages 6 – 12 years old.
