Fort Worth Opera and APEX Arts League Present Delightful: A Concert

Join Fort Worth Opera, Apex Arts League and the City of Southlake for an afternoon of opera arias, Broadway favorites and celebrated classics from the Great American Songbook performed by internationally renowned mezzo-soprano Emily Fons.

Acclaimed by Opera News as one of opera’s rising stars and praised for her Grammy-nominated role in Jennifer Higdon’s world-premiere opera Cold Mountain, Fons will be accompanied by Fort Worth Opera Artistic Director Joe Illick at the piano.

“I am looking forward to being part of Fort Worth Opera’s first appearance in Southlake,” said Fons. “I enjoy putting together a recital full of ear-pleasing, diverse music that can transport an audience to a place of calm beauty. I also love the immediacy of presenting music and text to a smaller audience and inviting them to experience music up close and personal, in hopes that they leave feeling uplifted and refreshed!”

Fort Worth Opera’s (FWOpera) talented Studio Artists will dispel the myths of opera for Southlake audiences in a performance of their exciting, interactive show Opera Mythbusters on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at 7:00pm.

In the fun and engaging style of a variety show, FWOpera’s Studio Artists will combine a mixture of live performances, multi-media presentations, and musical improvisations based on the audience’s suggestions to prove that the genre of opera is not as unfamiliar as it may seem.

Opera Mythbusters debuted during the 2013-2014 school year and features arias, duets, and ensembles from familiar operas and musicals to engage the audience. Comparing opera to popular music, Broadway, and movies that the audience is sure to know, guests will learn about the basics of the art form including voice types, ensemble sizes, and how to understand pieces in foreign languages. At the end of the show, audience members will be able to warm up their own vocal chords and have the opportunity to sing a famous Italian opera chorus.
