The Senior Activity Center Opens Monday, December 14

On Monday, December 14, the City of Southlake will host the Senior Activity Center Grand Opening at The Marq Southlake. The event is free and open to everyone 55 years and better.

The Grand Opening Celebration for the new Senior Activity Center starts at 9:00 a.m. and will feature a light breakfast, program demonstrations, entertainment, local vendors and educational seminars. Lunch will be provided by Metroport Meals On Wheels and will include a guest appearance from Mayor Laura Hill and former Mayor John Terrell.

During the course of this event, visitors will have the opportunity to learn about senior programs, meet our instructors, and tour the facility.

This year, the month of December is more than just the holiday season for the Senior Activity Center. Beginning with the Grand Opening on Monday, December 14, the Senior Activity Center will have officially moved into The Marq Southlake. The Southlake Senior Activity Center Grand Opening will feature program demonstrations and educational seminars as well as food and entertainment. The event is free and open to everyone 55 years and better.

In addition to the Grand Opening, the Senior Activity Center will be hosting several other great events in December. Below are some event highlights for the month:

Potbelly Sandwich Shop Brings its Good Vibes & Great Sandwiches to Southlake

logo_headerBest known for its good vibes, toasty sandwiches and live music, Potbelly Sandwich Shop opened its first shop in Southlake, Texas (1161 East Southlake Blvd., Suite 200) today, Tuesday, June 23, 2015.Even with more than 300 locations (and growing) throughout the U.S., every Potbelly Sandwich Shop maintains a unique neighborhood vibe by incorporating decoration that reflects each community, featuring local singing talent and partnering with local area charities.

To celebrate the Southlake opening, the new Potbelly held its traditional Oven Warming grand opening event onMonday, June 25. For a suggested $5 donation at the door, guests received a Potbelly Originals Sandwich, bag of chips and fountain drink. Additionally, 100 percent of proceeds was donated to Gateway Church Single Parents Ministry to raise funds for their great work.

The authentic Potbelly experience is defined by its combination of toasty warm sandwiches, hand-dipped shakes, tasty made-to-order salads, as well as friendly and lively people. Potbelly’s delicious food and heart for the surrounding neighborhood has built a passionate, loyal following of fans who eagerly spread the word about the shops’ fun, energetic atmosphere and great grub.

Often recognized for its live entertainment, music has been a part of the Potbelly experience since the first shop opened in 1977. Neighborhood musicians put a little rhythm into lunch by performing live at Potbelly Sandwich Shops around the country.

Potbelly’s unique atmosphere is complimented by its inviting interior. Potbelly will work with non-profit organizations to host an approved event at the shop, donating 25 percent of net sales during the designated time-frame to the group.

The Southlake shop is open Monday – Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

New Michaels Store Coming to Southlake in February

michaelsMichaels, North America’s largest arts and crafts specialty retailer, announces the grand opening of its new Southlake store, featuring an inspiring new design, located at 1051 E. Southlake Blvd., on February 8, 2015. The new store replaces a former location at Gateway Plaza.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 9:45 a.m., and doors open at 10 a.m. Michaels will be giving away more than $1,500 in gift cards and prizes throughout the day.  In addition, customers can win items for the whole family from the plinko prize board, which includes jewelry, art supplies, stickers and more. On Saturdays kids can explore their creativity with $2 Kids Club crafting events that continue all year long.

“We hope everyone will come out to help us celebrate during our grand opening festivities on Feb. 8,” said District Manager Chris Young. “Our new store features thousands of products that will inspire every crafter at any level from beginner to expert, plus classes for our customers to learn new skills.”

The store features an open design with wider aisles, warm colors and brighter lighting. Key departments are expanded and re-organized for easy shopping:

  • Home decor and floral offers wall art, tabletop decor, dried and silk floral for DIY or custom arrangements as well as vases, candles, decorative storage boxes and seasonal items.
  • The scrapbooking and paper crafts department features more than 3,000 styles of stickers and embellishments, plus loose paper, card stock, “bling” and a vast assortment of tools for cutting, cropping, edging and stamping.
  • The jewelry department has thousands of different styles of pre-strung and packaged beads, along with specialty findings, pendants, charms, tools and organizers.
  • The kids and tweens department inspires creativity through a vast selection of craft supplies and activity kits, plus everything needed for creating A+ school projects.
  • The art supplies area includes an expanded canvas selection and fine art papers with more shapes and larger sizes, more than 230 brushes and a broad selection of acrylic, oil and watercolor paints, drawing pencils, pastels and easels.
  • Custom framing features an open-style work area that encourages a hands-on design experience, with expert framers to help select mats and mouldings for all styles and budgets.
  • Get fresh inspiration while mastering new skills with Michaels’ variety of classes. Cake classes cover basic design as well as advanced techniques for fondant and gum paste. Crafters can put their spin on the latest jewelry trends with jewelry making classes working with a variety of styles and techniques. Paper crafting classes show how to make cards, banners and even wreaths like a pro.  New yarn classes run the gamut from simple arm-knit scarves to intricate crocheted animals.

The new store will be approximately 23,201 square feet and will employ more than 60 people.

The Fresh Market to Open Southlake Store January 14

The fresh marketThe Fresh Market, Inc. (NASDAQ: TFM) will expand its presence next month with a new store in Southlake, marking the company’s sixth store in the state of Texas.

At its newest location at 1001 E Southlake Boulevard, in the Southlake Park Village shopping center, the specialty grocer’s full-service philosophy will incorporate unparalleled product selection and expert customer service in an inviting atmosphere. The Fresh Market employs a team of friendly, well-trained professionals who pride themselves on providing the highest level of customer service to shoppers. Southlake's First Pie Five Celebrates Grand Opening

The rapidly growing concept, Pie Five Pizza,  will bring its 12th DFW-area restaurant to 2645 East Southlake Blvd in Southlake, near Dragon Stadium, on Monday, September 16, 2013 at 11:00 AM.

Rebecca Rankin, general manager of the chain’s seventh new location to open this year, can’t wait to introduce the Southlake community to the revolutionary fast-casual concept.

“Word is spreading around DFW that Pie Five is a truly better way to experience your favorite pizza,” said Rankin, who transferred from the Pie Five on Camp Bowie in Fort Worth.  “Once people come in and see how easy it is to get their own perfect pizza with whatever toppings they want all for one great price, they’re hooked.  Then they tell their friends about us.  That’s one of the reasons I enjoy working here so much.  We’re like a cool new discovery that people love to share.”
