There are a lot of new faces at Champions Club, and Melanie Starkey, our new Manager on Duty, is one of them.

Champions Club members know that the sleek black polos our MODs wear signify world-class customer service, and Melanie is ready to rise to the occasion. Melanie has a track record of outstanding customer service, having worked in the customer service industry for over seven years. For Melanie, it’s not just about doing the job. It’s about serving our community.

“I’m deeply passionate about providing the best possible customer care. I am currently enrolled in college, pursuing a bachelor’s in business administration. What brought me to Southlake is wanting to grow as a public servant for a vibrant community,” stated Melanie.

Since beginning in her position, Melanie has taken the time to get to know the Champions Club family. She’s thrilled to work for and with an amazing group of people and states that her favorite part of the job has been connecting with Champions Club members. “I love being a part of their daily lives!”

Champions Club members can find Melanie behind the front desk or running around the facility. She’s always willing to help our members, answer questions, and resolve issues. She also loves to talk and is eager to strike up a conversation to get to know our members better! Don’t be shy next time you visit Champions Club, and be sure to stop and chat with Melanie.

Like all Recreation professionals, Melanie understands the value of free time and fueling hobbies outside work. When she’s not at Champions Club, she likes to spend time with her friends, family, and dog Nugget. “I also love live music, reading, and playing video games!” exclaimed Melanie.

Welcome to the team, Melanie! We’re excited to see how you continue to provide world-class customer service to our Champions Club family.

There’s a new Manager on Duty in Champions Club, and her name is Jenni Mesa!

Loyal Champions Club members might have noticed a new face sporting the fashionable black polo reserved for the Manager on Duty. Jenni Mesa is the newest member of the Guest Services team at Champions Club, and we are very excited for our members to get to know her.

Jenni is no stranger to municipal government or Parks and Recreation. Let’s learn a little more about her journey!

What’s your professional background?
I have worked in municipal government ever since I was 16 years old. I started as a lifeguard when I was a junior in high school. I then got my Water Safety Instructor certification and eventually my Lifeguard Instructor certification. I later became the manager for the City of Gainesville pools.

In other words, parks and Rec is everything I have ever done! I work as a Youth Library Technician for the City of Lewisville in addition to my MOD position here. I am working on my Master's in Library Sciences and hope to become a Librarian. Ideally, I want to work for a youth department in a city library, but I'm open to whatever life throws at me. I graduated with my Bachelor's in English from the University of Florida (go gators) and currently attend the University of North Texas.

When did you start with the City, and what other positions have you had?
I started about six weeks ago as a Child Watch Spec. And now I am here as MOD!

What are you looking forward to the most about your new position?
My favorite part about working for the public is building a repertoire with the community I serve. I've loved that with all my public positions, and I'm sure I'll love it here once I learn the faces and names of our current regulars! I also am very open to hearing my coworkers' wants, needs, and complaints. As a manager, I am here to help the Champions Club staff and our members!

What do you like to do when not at work?
Considering my current degree in progress, it's no surprise that I love reading. Need a recommendation? Hit me up! I also have two dogs, so they take up a lot of time with cuddles. I am an excellent cook and baker if I do say so myself! Expect baked goods in the breakroom in the fall. I also like to play video games and have a Nintendo Switch and a PS5. My "to-be-played" list of games is way too long.

What’s something our Champions Club Family should know about you?
Champions Club staff should know that I am approachable, and I will always have your back! I believe in second chances, and I believe in taking opportunities to learn. Something fun about me is that I will argue until the end of time that Yoda becoming Grand Master and the Jedi General is a reason why the Jedi Order fell.

Our Champions Club members should know that I am trying my best to get in the swing of things, and it won't be long until I do!

Congratulations on your new position, Jenni! We look forward to seeing your positive contributions to Champions Club!

It’s getting hot outside, so there’s no better time than summer to take your workout indoors and into Champions Club! When you do, make sure to wave at MOD, Lexi Briner!

Those committed enough to fitness to work out on the weekends may have run into this week’s featured MOD Lexi Briner. Lexi oversees keeping Champions Club in tip-top shape on Saturdays and Sundays so that you can continue crushing your wellness goals.

For those that take a well-deserved rest day over the weekend, we wanted to give you the pleasure of getting to Lexi. Here’s what she had to say to us:

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I was born in Toledo, OH, but grew up in Texas starting at age 7. I went to college at Central Christian College of Kansas, where I played golf and got my degree in Sport Management. I coached golf when I graduated college until I joined the City of Southlake in September of 2019 as a Recreation Specialist in Athletics. I became a MOD in October of 2020.

What are your hobbies and what do you like to do in your free time?

I enjoy reading, playing golf, spending time with my family, and playing with my dog.

What is your favorite thing to do at Champions Club?

My favorite thing to do at Champions Club is look out over the courts from the track and watch our members enjoy themselves. I think that it is the best view in the building!

What do you like most about being a MOD?

I really enjoy getting to walk around the building and build relationships with the members and staff. I think that the key to a well-run facility is to have good relationships with everyone.

What would you say to someone considering a Champions Club membership?

I would tell them that they won’t regret it! There is something for everyone here, and we would be happy to welcome them into the Champions Club family.

Challenge yourself this month to work out on a Sunday, and make sure to head to the track and say hello to Lexi!

Every club has its lingo and set of acronyms to describe its culture as an organization. At Champions Club, the acronym MOD gets tossed around a lot.

The MODs, or Managers on Duty, are here to answer your questions, assist you with anything, and make your experience at Champions Club memorable. You’ve seen them walking around in their slick black polos and official walkie-talkies. They greet you with a smile when you walk in and are genuinely interested in how your day is going. But who are these all-knowledgeable guest services coordinators?

We’re giving Champions Club members the inside scoop on the MODs with this short series. The first MOD we’re introducing is the early bird responsible for making sure Champions Club is ready to go for your pre-work workout. This week’s featured MOD is John Michael Reyes!
