City of Southlake provides a big assist to Grapevine youth soccer programs

The heavy downpours of this past spring brought with them subsequent flooding and damage that made statewide and national news.

After the rain subsided, the high standing water lingered and produced flooding in local lakes and parks; specifically, these floods put the summer soccer season for the Grapevine-Southlake Soccer Association (GSSA) at risk. With the summer sports season ready to start, some of Grapevine’s main playing fields were still underwater. Luckily, the City of Southlake was able to provide field space for GSSA to use.

Southlake Parks and Recreation added additional space within its parks to provide soccer fields for GSSA to use for both practices and games. For the summer season, Southlake allocated practice and game fields for a total of 23 teams and approximately 225 players. And that’s not all; because Grapevine’s playing fields will not be ready until next spring, Southlake has also allocated additional space for practice and games for the upcoming fall season.

In the spirit of teamwork and partnership, the City of Southlake did what any friendly neighbor would do and made sure that the games played on! Southlake Parks and Recreation is continuing to work with GSSA as well as other local groups to assist with field allocation for upcoming practices and games this fall.
