Carroll Jazz Program for Middle School Students

Carroll-Jazz-thumbnailCarroll ISD 7-8 grade band students interested in learning more about the Carroll Jazz program can sign up for “Swing School’.

Sessions are held in the CSHS Jazz Room Mondays from 4- 5:15 p.m. The first class will be Monday, March 24.

The program is designed to give middle school students a chance to study with, learn from, and perform live with high school students in the jazz program. “Swing School” ends with students participating in a special performance in the Spring Jazz Concert on Thursday, May 1. Carroll Jazz to Present Spring Concert, Feature Guest Artists

The Carroll Jazz program will offer a free evening of jazz on Thursday, May 2 at 6:30 p.m. The concert will feature Carroll High School’s three jazz bands, the Dawson Middle School jazz band, and the Swing School jazz band.

The music will range from classics by Duke Ellington and Count Basie to modern compositions by UNT composers. The concert will also feature guest artists Stockton Helbing and Micah Bell. Mr. Helbing was formerly the drummer and musical director of the Maynard Ferguson Jazz Orchestra, and is currently the drummer for Doc Severinsen and his Orchestra. Micah Bell is a trumpeter and former member of the UNT One O’Clock Lab Band. The concert will be held in the CSHS Auditorium.
